I'm a new Grandmother!
Lucky you, well done, i have had Koi for a number of years and they have never spawned in my pond, look forward to seeing a pic of your fish , pond and new additions.
What do they look like?? Are they colored when they're young ? Did you see the eggs?Did you know they were there? Are the adults eating them ??No I'm not giving you the 3rd degree I'm just dying to have baby koi but mine have never had any,my gold fish have but never the KOi
Hi Crestedchik,
I have a large orange koi about 3 lbs...he or she has doubled in size since I bought it last summer and I bought 2 more smaller ones last summer at Walmart, they were about 4 inches long and grew fast, colors are white W/orange, white w/black... the babies look like little koi and are white w/orange and the black and a yellow and white one and orange ones...they look like the other big ones in the pond!
No, I didn't see any eggs and the others must not have eaten them because there are at least 50 babies and am seeing more everyday...some are about 4 inches now and some are about 2 inches so I think I must have 2 females that gave birth!
And no, I didn't know they were there until they wandered out at feeding time.
You must not have a male and female...so go buy some more and hope for the best!
Cheers,
Reb

Nice pics prissy, the all orange koi are called ogons, the orange and white are kohaku and the white and black are bekkos, and they will grow very quickly untill the get to about a foot then they will grow steady but more slowly, unlike gold fish the will keep growing too, spawning will take place early may or as soon as the water reaches 62*c, its a wonder you didnt notice, cos they normaly make a mess of your plants, the eggs hatch after just a few days, and the fry are free swimming in about three days, and the colours of the fry are normaly visible when they are about an inch long, and the koi will eat the eggs if they can find them, even there own, you will have a lot of koi in your pond, and you will need to maintain the water quality if they are to survive, but you seem to have enough to make a $ or 2 from them as well, have fun.
Nice pictures,You'll have to build more ponds to put the babies in .They're so cute!!!
Aren't those the cutest little fish. I would love to have something big enough to put a Koi in. I have two fan tail gold fish in a water pot container.
I'm jealous! No,,just kidding. I had some baby fish but they were dinner for the other 5. I've decided next time I'm gonna try to catch some to separate them. Congrats! Maybe you should have a "fishy shower"? :) :) Sorry,,bad joke.
Love the pics...they are just tooooo cute!!! I recently discovered babies in my pond too, just 3 or 4 days ago. I can't yet tell if they are koi, goldfish, fancies or a cross, giggle. I only found a couple though so either the adults or my big old bullfrog were hugry.
Hi Ya'll,
This is the first year I put parrots feather in my pond and I believe it has harbored the baby fish to safety...I don't really know but it has spread far out and the baby fish feed in center of it and large fish have trouble getting thru it...sooo I think it helps hide the babies to survive...
Get some and try it!
I hope this helps!
Cheers!
Great, I would give my eye teeth to have a pond. I would give them if I had them.LOL It sound wonderful. I love Koi.
