Wondering if any body out there has an idea what kind(s) of chicks these might be? Just picked them up today. Was looking for some different colored silkies (I have white) and couldn't resist these little guys. They were sold as mixed chicks.
New Chicks ID?
Did you know you can post all of your pictures in one thread by just replying to your own post? Probably better than posting multiple threads.
You can find photos of chicks by breed both at www.feathersite and at the McMurray Hatchery website. They should help you match chick with breed, although some of the chicks of different breeds look very similar.
The little chipmunk ones could be brown leghorns but my Ameraucanas were marked like that too. The Ameraucanas had a very distinct beard from the first.
WEll, they do look like my darker auracauna chick.
If they are silkies they will have the feathered feet, black skin and fifth toe.
Where did you buy your chicks? They look much like ones I bought. I also bought mixed, all females, except for 6 silkies that will probably turn out to be males. LOL
We call the striped ones chipmunks. It's not original but it is what they look like. I think we have one white silkie and five buff. Most are a creamy yellow and one is more beige. One has black specks on it's head! Time will tell, as they get more feathers.
I've checked the chick pics too and some are that definitive.
Maybe someone here that knows for sure what they have, could start a post of baby pics? Please??
Hart - I was not aware of that way of posting multiple pics. Thanks for the info.
I bought them at a local auction. Went to find some different colors and to bring in some new 'blood'. None of them are silkies. I am especially interested in the chipmunk looking ones, but the 'chocolate' brown ones look interesting also. Haven't had any chicks that look like either one.
I wonder if your chocolate brown and my "all black" are the same thing. I think I'll start trying to get pics of them, one by one so when they grow up, I can figure out who looked like what as a baby. LOL
Oh, yeah, what hart said! You can keep replying to your own post with new pics so all the related pics are in the same place. It's easier to see them all that way and all your info ends up in the same place.
Ok, thanks for the tips.
