Whats wrong with my fish??!!!

San Diego, CA

I have a container pond that has two platys and two feeder fish. Yesterday, I found out that one of the platys had missing scales and the places where the scales were missing had fluffy stuff hanging on its body. Its tail was also nipped a little bit. Then, today, I found out my other platy had the exact same thing too. And a week before, one of the goldfish had the same thing and died a few days later. What can I do? I don't want it to die. Thanks for any help!

Hi,

I'm not sure but it sounds like a fungus...I had some Gourami's that had what sounds like your fish have and bought all kinds of medicine but they all died eventually.

You should call a pet shop that knows about these things and they may tell you what to do...but it could be too late...I hope not!

Cheers,
Reb

It is a fungus, the fish may have picked up a parasite and have been rubbing against something to get them off, and in so doing lost a few scales too, and that has let in the fungus get a hold, you will need to treat for both, but unfortunatly you cannot safely use both cures together, time is important, consult a aquatics dealer for advice and which treatments you will need, i hope you are fortunate with your fish.
