Purple Calla.

I am so lucky! I went to my local garden centre today to look for a birthday present for my daughter, they had just one of these left!

I am certain it's Captain Prado (the one everyone wants), the colour even more deep purple than the catalogue pic, almost black towards the centre. There is no maroon colour at all, it's purple with a just visible lighter purple edge which shows better with sun shining through it.

No way am I giving it away! Now I have a dilemma, her birthday is tomorrow which is now today. It really wasn't a tough decision, when it comes to plants like this I'm afraid daughters come second!

I took the pic in the shade and it's very close to the true colour. There is 4 flowers, 1 large and others smaller (it's a young plant), with 2 more making. I know there is a supplier in the US of this, you may pay a bit more but it's worth it, really! I didn't hesitate!

I am in the clear, I got a really nice Pericallis senetti Deep Blue (new this year) as a replacement present, it was gorgeous but I can't keep everything! Huge flowers a deep rich blue, I should have had my camera, it was unbelievable! (would have gone well with the purple!)

Now I don't feel like a wicked plant-hogging mother!

That is a good head start on my other callas!

I really have to post this pic, it's slightly fuzzy but sooooo nice!

Hi R, long time no see!

I've been back working at the "best local plant shop" for several weeks now and that has cut into my gardening time as well as my Dave's time in a big way. I feel good having some cashflow, but wish I had as much garden time as I did before.

So much to do, so little time.

Where can I find the big calla lillies? You know-with the big blooms? I have one I found from Dutch Gardens, but the only color they had in that size bloom was yellow. I would like some other colors. My yellow ones are beautiful. My mother said she had never seen a calla lily so big. I saw one about 2 years ago in a neighbors yard-a huge bloom plus it was very tall-probably came up to my waist. I have been trying to find more like that, but haven't been successful. I enjoy the dwarf callas and have plenty of those-one white bloom came out today. If anyone knows where to find the big callas, please let me know!!
