im new at this.... HELP!!

Ingleside, TX

Well I have just started collecting Bromeliads. I don't know too much about them, I don't even know what kinds I have. I intend to post pics of them so maybe someone can tell me. I am just looking for beginers pointers. I think I have about 10 different ones, I believe they are very common though. I was a little bit discouraged though... I went to a nursery and found out when I got home that the bromeliad that I had purchased was hot glued into plce. Is that common and will it hurt them? As you can see I know nothing and I am very eager to learn so if anyone can help me out a little please do!!

Thank you,

Tillandsias (one of the Bromeliad Genera) are often glued to a piece of wood or cork. I used to use hot glue but I now prefer Goop Marine. The roots of Tillandsias are very tough and ahhesive and the glue will not hurt them.

Tillandsias are the ultimate epiphytes (air plants) and do not like to have their roots in the ground (there are exceptions of course). In nature, most Bromeliads are epiphytic and grow in trees. Some are terrestrial like Ananas (the pineapple), Cryptanthus, and some of the xeric types.

Here are two good internet info sources. http://fcbs.org/ and http://bsi.org/
Let's see your pictures.

Dave.
