Trimming

Baton Rouge, LA

I have a night blooming cirus that is doing really well but several of the branches are not putting on new growth. They look dull and old but are still green when I scratch them. Should I cut them off or just leave them alone?

Hard to tell, Can you post a picture?

I decided to leave them and if they produce anything by winter I will trim them off.

I'm glad you decided to leave them alone. These older branches can produce flowers, and mine are all starting to produce buds now. I would never cut this time of year if you can help it.

im with Clare, though continuosly suprised, some of the most horrible looking branches on my epis are the only ones that flower...I think the more time they have to show their years they more 'age marks' and growth patterns they develop, but they also usually have a good grip on the plant, I only ever trim things at this time of year that would usually break off themselves - dry/dead pieces which are usually just on tips of larger plants (until the plant finishes its bloom cycle that is!).
