Hi All,
We are proud to let you know that after three years of planning, a new iris society has sprouted on the prairies. Northern Lights Regional Iris Society is now affiliated with the Canadian Iris Society. We were approved by the CIS Board at their recent board meeting.
Our catchment area of iris grower members includes the prairies, Yukon, NWT and colder parts of BC. Of course, all are welcome. If you wish to join our yahoo discussion list, LMK and we'll send you an invitation.
Cheers,
Inanda, Echoes & others,
Doing more than the happy dance, happy jig is more like it.
New Iris Society

Congrats Inanda & echoes! Do you have a website?
I should come and check your group out as this will be my first year with Iris in the garden. I just bought some from the RBG plant sale and I'm clueless about whether to put them in the ground yet. One of them has buds but I don't know if planting it will cause the blooming to abort or not......a little anxiety here, lol.
Invite on the way to you.

Erynne, has it bloomed now? Did you take a picture?
I so envy you, being able to go to the CIS sale at RBG. Things are really changng there, aren't they. One good thing, the library is going to be opened again. RBG members will soon be able to once again use their books (heavy on iris & liy books BTW). Can't think why !!!!!!!! They have been in boxes for about 4 or 5 years I think.
Some chat/discussion about the lily beds moving to the Laking Gardens,. Wonder what Dr. Laking thinks about that!!!! So, all lily people should make an effort to attend the lily sale...........
All the members put in names they liked and then we voted. NL was the most popular. Because iris are so many diff. colours. Itok some pix the other day and they were all rotten. Have to try for some more.
I like the baby dwarf iris best. They are so welcome, don't blow over in the wind and most clump up very quickly. I noticed Chuck Chapman is finally updatig his website. Yumm yummm.
Pretty soon we'll have to have a DG division of the NLRIS chat list on yahoo.

Hey inanda,
Oh yeah it bloomed alright but it isn't what it's supposed to be which is Bit of Chocolate. Even funnier is that the first blooms were a lovely purple and now a second wave of blooms is yellow! I didn't think to take a pic because it was not the right plant. I think two different plants were in the same pot, lol.
I have 2 more labelled as Bit of Chocolate and 2 labelled as Amethyst Flame....they aren't showing signs of blooming yet and I hope they are what they are supposed to be. Either way, I really love how detailed those mislabelled iris were and I'll keep 'em.
Where are you hearing all this info about RBG?? I got my newsletters but didn't see any mention about the library or the possibility of moving the lilies from Hendrie to Laking. I wonder why they would do that?? If you ask me though, it might not be a bad thing as Laking seems rather lacking somehow....it needs a pick a me up.
The Iris displays are up for June 3 & 10. If I have to beg, whine, stomp my feet and cry, I am going. I say this because DH may not want to go and I don't do long distance driving when my vertigo is acting up which it is now (again, sigh). I did get to see the Lilac Walk the weekend before last.....a feast for the olfactory system!
BTW, I let that mislabelled iris just bloom its head off in the pot because I didn't want to stop the show. The others are in the ground.
Erynne
Info re RBG is gossip. Who knows.
inanda
I get it now ;p
