Hi everyone,
I was just reading about a science fair project and the student determined that classical music was good for plants and actually helped them grow. He also found that country music stunted their growth. Really? , My plants seem to like my Toby Keith cds alot and they seem to be be growing just fine and what about rock and roll? rap? heavy metal?
Anybody have an opinion on this? :)

Does music help your plants grow?
Well there you go, Sue! You've solved my problem from my other thread then! We play country music around here!! Lots of it and fairly loud, too! LOL
I wonder, and we'd need tons of extra information, if the vibration of the beat of some songs might have something to do with it? But then classical doesn't really have a "beat" so I don't know. If the music with a heavy beat seemed to help, I might point back to the "smack them around" thread and suggest that the vibration stimulates the roots.
That is a very good point, all these thread do connect eventually don't they?
I play Bob Seger some times and if I sneak up on them and look really fast I can even see them dancing!
The reason I even brought this up is I was remembering an old album I used to have in the 70's called " Music to grow plants by" or something like that. I can't recall what kind of music it was though.

hee hee ... I guess I better turn on the Radio or play some CD's for all my plants and see if it works! I know Classical Music makes me grow! LOL. I love all kinds of music really ... my car radio stays tuned to a Country Station and my IPod has a mix of Country, Soft Rock and Classical. Hmmm .... I see an experiment brewing here! :) But, I think my plants would probably be just like me, listening to everyone from Toby Keith to Aerosmith to Rachmaninoff!
Interesting but not surprising....

I read in a gardening folklore book- I talked about it on another thread in this forum but can't remember where- that the beat causes vibrations, causing the water in the pot to evaporate faster (so it looks like the plant is taking on more water than it really is). But that the pores of the plants show there is no difference in water uptake in rooms with any kind of music vs. rooms with no music.
