Achimenes

St. John's, NL(Zone 5b)

My grandmother had this plant for many years...she called it her Ressurection Plant. Mine could be thought of as a heritage plant as I'm sure this one dates back some 30 years! She has given MANY away over the years. I've never seen it for sale in any local nurseries and she was given the plant so long ago she can't remember where she got it from. Mine is just starting to bloom for the season so I thought I would share it.

Thanks, Todd. 30 years....amazing. I just got some achimenes rhizomes and plan to grow them outdoors for the summer. Any special tips you would like to share? While I'm writing, it seems your photos end up as my desktop background so often. This is the one I'm using now which I adore.

I've never grown them outdoors....I would think they would be tricky as I don't think they like to have wet foliage (something like African Violets in that regards) but I could be completely wrong...after all, they must grow outdoors somewhere in the world!

I think I will keep them on my covered front porch then. Where do you grow yours indoors? Under grow lights? In a window?

In a bright SE facing window so morning sun, afternoon shade...much the same as the African Violets....perhaps a little brighter.
