So, just how cold hardy are they?

Arlington, TX

I have various brugs in containers (yellow, pink, red, etc.) that I've picked up over the years and they do fine, just don't flower that much. I'm in TX (DFW area) and am thinking of planting them outside. White and purple-edged daturas thrive here, but I bring the brugs inside for the winter.

The question is: am I likely to be safe leaving them in the ground over winter? I'm thinking of an area very close to the house in which Meyer lemons etc. thrive, but we do get occasional "hard" freezes (a day or two). I'm guessing that this is OK but could use some input.

Thanks!

They will probably die back to the ground, even after you wrap them with bubble wrap to two feet, and cover them with mulch in a big mound. I find they don't send out shoots til June, and it's late July before they are really nice size plants. Here in 7b, I've had better luck with their cuttings, which I root in water, plant in gal pots after Jan (I have a GH - but a grow light situation would do) and plant the nice one foot plants outside after Apr 20 - I've put 20 plants in the garden this week, and have 20 more to go into big pots on my patio.
