Nancy sent me this Streptocarpus 'Bristol's Tropical Twister' last fall. It is getting ready to bloom for the first time. I love to take "time progression" type pictures, so here are the events of the day for this bud... I cannot wait to see it fully opened! It promises to be simply splendid!

Strep 'Bristol's Tropical Twister'
That color is fabulous!!!!!
Can't wait to see it open!
Blasted thing hasn't opened one iota more than it had in that last picture! Guess we'll have to wait til tomorrow to experience the full beauty. :o)
Looks like it's going to be a beauty!
I love that, it almost looks like an orchid!!
Sue
Tropical Twister is sooooo pretty.
where are you all finding vendors with the tropical twisters,Nancy??? Did the mailman come?????
gail
Thanks Gail!
Oh Nancy, yours is *gorgeous*!! Can't wait for mine to grow up and be that pretty!! It's getting there, though! :o) Thank you so much for sending this one to me!
How's your Petrocosmea doing?
I am laughing as I don't even know what a Petrocesmea is!!!!!
Gail..LOL I got the Mother Tropical Twister from Ebay a couple of years ago and I just keep propagating babies from her.Shes been a good mommy : )
I never made it to the P.O. yesterday : ( So it might have arrived.I will let you know tomorrow : -o
why do I worry about things that don't matter?????? just cause i do!!!!!
Gail, Nancy sent me a Petrocosmea last fall. I was just wondering how hers is doing. Here's the page at Violet Barn about Petrocosmeas. http://www.violetbarn.com/petrocosmea.htm
Amy,Give yours time and it will be HUGE!! Edited to add..your Tropical Twister I mean..The petrocosmea I am not sure how large it will get.but...
My Petrocosmea is ok buts its definitely not one of my favorite gessies! It blooms on and off but not real steady and it sure stays small..LOL teeny tiny.Maybe one of these days I will find out how to make it really happy and then I will like it better too.
Gail a Petrocosmea is... yes..yet another member of the gessie family. Its mind boggling how many plants there are in the family.: )

My Petrocosmea is a teeny tiny little thing, too. Never has bloomed. You wouldn't believe how small it is. It doesn't grow or die. It just sits there. What in the world are you doing for yours? I've tried everything I know for this one and just can't make it happy.
I don't know really Amy.Maybe someone else who grows them will hop in here and give us both some advice..LOL..I could use some.I assumed I was supposed to care for them just like an av so thats what I have been doing. But mine is pretty much just a shelf space taker upper now again. It just sits there..LOL I have tried to start leaves from it and I can't get them to make babies no matter how hard I try.grrr I think I am going to try sticking the whole plant in a terrarium jar I have and see if that helps it.
Good luck with the terrarium. I tried that too. It's like having a pet rock. It just sits there! LOL Mine is in about a 1 inch cup. One of those condiment cups like you squirt ketchup in at a fast food restaurant. The plant itself *might* be the size of a nickel.
Well, here. I'm embarrassed to show it, but here's a picture. I promise, Nancy, I've tried so hard to grow it pretty! You were so sweet to send it to me and look how it's turned out. :o( I'm sorry I haven't been a better Petrocosmea mom...
LOL..Oh my goodness that IS tiny Amy.Maybe its time to play taps and lay it to rest hee hee.I know I shouldn't make light of it but it is sooo very tiny and sad looking.I am hoping they are just really hard to grow if neither of us have had much luck with them.Now..just watch someone will come on here and show a grogeous beauty they are growing and pour salt in our wounds.Gosh when I first got them from Rob's for us I was soo pleased too.
I may have to break down and order from Rob's Violet Barn......my addictions change....right now, I am stuck on mini Avs.....I received my order for standards from Bluebird.....they are nice but I think some of my noids are prettier......don't get me wrong, I will pamper and love them!!!!!
Now Nancy, you'd just have me give up on the little thing?? No way! You know how desperately I wanted a Petrocosmea. I won't give up on it on til there's just no chance at all. It's very much alive, just not growing. Obviously, it has lost some of the leaves it had when you first sent it to me. I did awful with it when I first got it, and it declined rapidly. Then it leveled out and has stayed the same since. I was hoping the arrival of spring would bring improvements for it, but that hasn't happened so far. I've heard that some people have trouble with Rob's plants acclimating to their homes. I'm sure he grows them in perfect conditions, and my home is less than perfect for them. I'm still working with it, trying to figure out what it wants. I recall that Pam bought several and lost all of hers. Seems like she said it was as if they were very fragile or delicate. I can't remember exactly what she said, but maybe she'll pop in and tell us her experience with them. I'd love to see a picture of yours. I think I'll start a new thread and ask if anyone has any Petrocosmeas that are doing well.
Gail, which plants did you get from Bluebird? I'd love to see pictures! Celery is one they have that I'd love to grow one day (if I ever figure out what my problem is). Did you get that one?
I started a Petrocosmea thread here. http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/717803/ Maybe we'll get some help. Surely someone here grows them well!
....I will tell you what I got and later this week, I will post pictures as I think maybe they will all be blooming by then. (just went through every email looking for the order) Do you all know how much I like you....the Avs are sitting at the computer so I can read the names:
Optimara 'EveryGlory'
'Steel Blue'
'Strawberry Sundae'
'V Merry christimas'...this is the only big disappointment
'Rozoviy Shemchug'
'Buckeye Elusive Star'
Optimara 'EverPraise'
Optimara 'EverGrace'
'Lubimaia Dochka' never seen a bloom this big on an av
'South Shore Rose'
Buckeye Cranapple
Buckeye Edged Night
Buckeye Candy Kisses
Rozeviy Zhemchug
EK-Lesnaia Ezhevika
I am glad you asked that question!!!! I need to learn to be grateful....I only ordered 12....the Russians are to die for in blooms....they even sent me two Russians that are the same and it is gorgeous.....I can propagate and tear one up....
Hey, I killed Steel Blue and South Shore Rose! :oP
You'll do beautifully with them! Can't wait to see the pictures. :o) I might get brave and bum a leaf of EverGlory off of you one day. I do love those Spacebabies!
We sure are happy that you like us well enough to list them all! :o) Those Russians are gorgeous. I think I have a couple of those left, thankfully.
Let me know which leaves you want, RainGazer......
Aren't those Russians just the best!!!!!
The blooms so far on the spacebabies are good ones!!!!
Steel blue and south shore rose aren't blooming yet...
***** On second thought, you kill that crown root rot and I will start growing the leaves to the above mentioned ones, RainGazer!!!!
