I'm new to streps and am wondering, how do I know if there are seeds formed in the spent blooms? I have noticed that 2 spent blooms on my 'bristol's ant eater' look different from others, they didn't shrivel up and disappear. They have stayed tall and thin and I'm wondering if that's because they have seeds. Anyone know? And if they have seeds I wonder how many they usually make? Enough to share with you all I hope.
(Note this pic was taken a month or 2 ago, so it doesn't show the plant with spent blooms)
Do all blooms on streps make seeds?
not all will have seed pods. most do get them. when they don't shrivel up it's generally a seed pod. takes a while for them to get ripe. leaves them on until they get brown, ypu will notice they will start to twist. once they turn brown & dry you can cut them off & sow the seed. just twist the pod open on a white piece of paper.good luck

Thanks Mrsbonnie.
exposing ignorance here.....I just pulled the "old" open blooms off the streps that were blooming...i didn't know that they might have seed pods....
Next time, gail. Just slide the spent blossom off and see if there is an elongated seed pod starting to form. That is, if you want seeds.
Of course I want seeds....never met a plant I didn't like or want to grow...
