Yay! I didn't even know what a Tanager was until I looked it up last night. We had a small flock of new-to-us birds alight in one of our trees. The red (I think it's a Scarlet Tanager) caught our eye but when I looked at the photo later (sorry, not the best, we were rushing!) I saw a small green bird - female maybe?
And our hummers have arrived...yippee! I saw 3 yesterday, although the male ruby throat is dead set against sharing any of the 3 feeders that I *thought* I placed far enough apart to give everyone their own space :( But I can't stay mad, cuz they are just too darn cute! I'll try to get some pics of the hummers this weekend, but here is our tentative ID'd Scarlet Tanager and friend....friend is in the lower right-hand portion of the pic.
Tanagers and Hummers!
Certainly looks like a Scarlet Tanager; Congratulations!
There is a pair of Scarlet Tanagers in the picture. The little greenish female is nearly camouflaged, about half way between the male and the lower right corner.
Thanks, they haven't been back since that one day (at least that I've seen). I think it is a buckeye tree lilyfan - they are sprouting up here all over the place. We just moved into this rental in December, so I am sure I'll find more surprises.
Thanks for the confirmation on the ID - can't believe we had the camera close enough to dash in and snap a pic before the flock (probably 5-6 of them) flew on off.
I believe we had a bluebird the other day, but no camera handy at that time and it was very skittish :(
Today we had a bull on the loose in the neighborhood - at least it's never dull here!
I was riding my horse one day and saw a scarlet tanager. Almost fell off-----haven't seen one since-----It was really a treat. Ive been a birdwatcher all of my life, so I knew what it was.
