My cat accompanies me into the garden and uses the philodendron and gingers as her own personal secret jungle. She loves it so much that when it's time to go inside I usually have to wade in there and physically remove her. I was doing the usual cat extraction thing when I found this bloom on my philodendron.
Philodendron Bloom
That plant looks so huge! Looks like you have a tropical jungle there from seeing what is peeking out from the side of your second picture.
Cool! Luv your jungle and can see why your kitty would luv it!!

Wow, very interesting! Thank you for sharing the pictures.

How cool. I wonder if they have to be a certain age to bloom.
Wont that flower produce a delicious edibble fruit, monstera deliciosa?'

My mom used to hack off the flowers of her philodendrons years ago. She used to say it was sucking the energy out of the plant. I have no idea if that is true. We didn't eat them though. They didn't seem very edible as I recall... but try it I guess if you feel adventurous.
Joegee, I've never noticed a fruit before. I'll have to keep an eye on it and see what happens. I'll volunteer you to eat it though :)
Floradata says all parts of the plant are poisonous - EXCEPT the fruit!
Found this on the fruit; http://www.deliciousorganics.com/recipes/monstera.htm
Yup, the *ripened* fruit is supposedly a little slice of heaven.
GREAT link, ardesia. :) Thank you!

Ardesia,
Thanks for the link! That was so interesting. Maybe I will give the fruit a try after all.
You are both welcome. I went out yesterday and fed my philodendrons and hope they respond and give me some flowers and fruit too! LOL
