Daffodil question

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

My daffodils have long since quit blooming, but of course they are still green. I don't remember how long it takes for them to die down. I know that I have to leave them so they will bloom next year, but I have a reason for wanting them to hurry up! so would it hurt to maybe cut of just half of the tops?

Here is a pic of one end of the bed. It is 4 x 8 and was solid daffodils.

I'm curious what's your reason for wanting them to hurry?
I don't think cutting the tops off would do anything as far as hurrying them along, i think they would just turn brown a half in below the cut and still stay green.

Because this was my zinnia bed and I saw some zinnias coming up so I threw some more seed in there for zinnias and cosmos. So I wanted the tops to go away so my zinnia bed will be pretty and so they will have enough room

they should start browning from the top, and i'd just keep cutting the brown off
should,t be that much longer anyway, I have some about gone

You might want to read this post of Illoquin's from a while back, 6 weeks of foliage is enough:

Is that 6 wks after the bulbs sprout foliage or 6 wks after bloom?

I think it's after bloom. Maybe she'll see this, or you could d-mail her to be sure.

I would bet it's 6 weeks after bloom. The bulb is using what it stored the year before to push up the new leaf growth and flower so needs the time after bloom to replenish. That is good info to have though, I've let them go and look raggedy to the ground:LOL: Now I'll be hovering with my calendar marked for 6 weeks and some snips:LOL:
