SunPatiens

I have been waiting for the SunPatiens to be available locally. I have read about them, not just from the Viva(producer's) site, but from other sites, that claim the SunPatiens make it in the summer. In the heat. In the sun. Hard to believe, so I thought I would give it a look-see. From what I understand, the only retail stores to have them now are Home Depot. I went to the HD Landscaper's supply and saw the SP's (SunPatiens) there yesterday. Wow, they are big. The color selection was only white, and they were tall and leggy, not spreading out. Perhaps they were grown too closely and funnelled each plant upwards, so I didn't buy them. So to the local HD today which had them. These SP's were nicer. I saw the pink SP's I thought I wanted, but I preferred the orange ones for my garden. These are huge plants in big pots. The Viva site says 18-30" and I believe it. SP's are more like the New Guinea impatiens in looks. The flowers are huge and bright. I'll let you know how they do over time. There will be a little delay in putting them into the ground, as I am waiting for the irrigation system to be 'tweaked'. Here is close-up of one of the flowers; the blooms are large. Just thought I would share this info.

A photo of 2 of the 3 SunPatiens I purchased today. Not sure why the shopworn blooms stand out in this photo. In person, it is hardly noticable.

Nice that you posted a picture. Now I know what to look for. My local Home depot looked at me like I was speaking Martian when I asked about them.I'll swing by this weeked and see if they have them yet. I want to try them in my garden this year.

I'd be really interested as to how these plants did for you Tasaho. I tried them for the first time about last may, in full sun...and didn't baby them and actually still have some blooming. They seem to be everything they claim. They're very scarce in my local Home Depot right now and I was lucky enough to find a couple palettes (about 18 plants) and bought them all.

I had a fountain out in front of my house that just wasn't working that great...so I filled it in with dirt and planted it last Sunday with Sunpatiens...I think they're going to be great!
