Task Manager Problem

I was having problems with my computer this morning (desktop would not load in spite of many reboots). At one point, I managed to get the task manager running using cntrl-alt-del and didn't see anything odd. Eventually after several attempts to reboot, the desktop and programs loaded. The problem is that now, when I hit cntl-alt-del I get a box with current user listed at the top and just the options "disconnect" and "logoff" instead of the task manager window. Neither of those options sounds like anything that I want to do, and the only way I've been able to close that box is to use esc. This window doesn't even have a "close" option. What have I done and how do I correct it? All help appreciated. Thanks.
