aristolochia tomentosa

Ashdown, AR(Zone 8a)

Does anyone have seeds for wooly dutchman's pipe? I found a website that has them but I don't want to order a bunch of other seeds just so I can meet min. order. I'll have some seed for chocolate daisy in a few weeks to offer as a swap.

Ah Peggy, Just spreading the love girl! Much success to ya! (I'm selfish, I want your nursery project to be blessed.) It's just a chain reaction to what has come to me from all these super DGers!

Deb,
I have a.tomentosa coming up like gangbusters. They started coming up within a week of sewing and more are up everyday. Can't thank you enough. I've got the others aristolochias seeds you sent soaking to be sewn tomorrow.

Hey Deb,
This might be a silly question...but how do you get seeds from Aristolchia?

HI Adrienne!
The seeds come after the bloom fades in the vine and turns brown.. There should be a rattling inside before the pods are clipped off. :-D

Peggy! YAAAY! I am so glad the seeds are coming up well! I still have more seeds if anyone wants any too. (SASBE me), The Pipevine Swallowtails are so beautiful, I want everyone in range to have them. I believe it also serves as larval host for Polydamas ST as well, (for those in range)..

How did the Joe Pye work out for ya?

Great photo of a Pipevine!!! Seems the only time they stay put like that is when they first emerge :o)

Do ya'll remember this one from February when we had a Pipevine explosion? All those chrysalids that overwintered emerged at the same time and they gathered in communal roosts when the evening settled in. :o)

WOnderful shot Cat! Yes I remember it! I am so glad to see flocks of butterflies. I was just thinking about a park near here where they let the brush and plants go, and it's near a creek... *Someone* could go stick some
A. tomentosa seed down in there...humm. It's such a nice park, but they sure could use a lot more native host plants.

Deb,
I haven't gotten the joe pye weeds sewn yet. Hoping to get them done Friday so the seedlings will be big enough to make it thru the hottest parts of summer. I'm only sewing part of them just in case the heat does get the seedlings.

Cat,
Thats the most incredible picture. I think if I saw that in person that I'd be breathless!!!

Thanks for sharing it!

Cool Peggy,
Yes in time for summer heat, but strong enough to get through the winter too. Not sure if JPW bloom much in the first year anyway.

I've got a couple more joe pye weed varieties growing in the greenhouse from seed so I hope the ones you sent germinate and grow as well as these are.
