My chicks came yesterday! I'm SOOOOOOOOOO happy about it. WEEEEEEE!!
They all came safe and sound from meyer hatchery, and they were all in extremely good condition. THey were packed in a little box that had a heating pad and soft straw on all sides to keep them safe.
I even got a bonus chick that lived!
Of course, they were SUPPOSED to get here at 7 am, so guess who was too excited to sleep past about 4am? You got it. They road all around southern NH, but they eventually got here around 1 yesterday afternoon. I'm so proud. There are 13 of them. 10 mixed silkies, 1 cuckoo maran ( chocolate brown layer) and 2 aracaunas. YAY!
Pix to follow.
BABIES! BABIES! THEY'RE FINALLY HERE WEE!! YAYA!! WOO HOO!
Oooooooooooooooooo love the pics!!!
They are so cute, big time congrats on the new additions!!
I've got a lot of catching up to do on the threads...lol

They are so cute, love the pic with you other pets. I would be afraid to let one of my cats get so close.
well, everyone likes to have a good sniff, then they leave them alone. Especially the dog. He just gives me that " you crazy pack leader" look and sighs and goes back to his job, holding down the couch :)
Only the grey cat Odin is really a threat, I keep a close eye on him :)
My little babies are growning so fast! They all lost their egg tooth by this morning!
O wow they are so cute and furagle.. What is the cost of meyer hatchery for the chicks not to be noisey but I will buy some? Hope KB will not have a phoo about it...
Tracey
They are so cute, backyardhens! Thanks so much for sharing your photos. I just love seeing everybody's chickens.
Lovely chicks, and the four legged furries, too. The names are great... into Norse and Greek mythology, I'm guessing? :)
Now didnt you get a precious assortment! They are so wonderful and sweet! Looks like the little Cuckoo will be the Boss! Old Shackleton, looks like he is all ready to be the body guard!!! ( and he is so handsome too)! Odin just has that look in his eye, you know to watch him!!! Now Miss Venus , Hmmm, she seems to be the mothering type, but just waiting for one to jump and run!!!!! We have to play chase and catch!!!!
Little Macadamia looks like it has fuzzy legs! Could be you have a white silkie there! soooooo cute!
I'm thinking that Macadamia is a white silkie, yes. She has the black skin and the 5 toes.
I do love a dignified, celestial name in a chicken ( or cat for that matter) so I do use a lot of Greek and other mythology , history or literary references in my pet naming. Plus, I'm trying to get it all out of my system before I have human kiddos, so they get relatively normal names, lol.
nicksmom ~ the website is www.meyerhatchery.com I have nothing but HUGE praise for them. THe chicks are all healthy and happy, I got an extra, I called their customer service a few times and they were really nice, even when I was a worried wreck. They sent my chicks express, since there were less than 25. This meant I paid an extra fee of $20 for the upgrade, and the heating pad that came with it. For me it was TOTALLY worth it.
On the catalogue it says that there is a 25 chick minimum, but that isn't true. ( clearly)
*yay*
They grow so fast! Already they have all lost their egg tooth!
What is a egg tooth???
MQN sent some thing to me on medicine please look at me help no eggs because it may help catncrows out with the poor hen...
Hope Her hen is okay...
I hope that doesn't happen to no one that is bad for the hens....How are your baby chicks and chickens doing???
I bet they are getting big mine are getting big fast...
My silkies layed 5 eggs and had to take them from her because KB said no more baby chicks...
But I'm going to send them to my son's teacher and maybe she
will hatch them as a class thing...
And then I could bring them home..
Tracey
An egg tooth is a little thing that chicks have on the outside of their beaks when they are fist formed inside the egg. They use it to help crack the egg from the inside. If you look carefully at this pic of one of my silkie chicks ( Amelia) you can see she has an egg tooth. That bump thing. It is gone now. They grow so fast. *sigh*
I really thought I had already posted on here!
Macadamia looks a lot like the little silkies we got. They might be related! LOL
I was cautious to post much about Meyer Hatchery just yet as my chicks did not have that long of a journey. I'd say yours went a bit further. ha!
And score one for me! I actually knew what an egg tooth was. I noticed them missing from my birds but didn't think it was anything major.
Your birds are so cute! I just love the little feathery legs on the silkies!
Loved all your baby chick pictures. Good luck with your feathered family.
