I've spent the last 18 years owned by a silver tabby cat, Smoochie.
I put these words to page after he passed.
Whiskers touch my face and waken me
My hand reaches to you in greeting
Your purr fills my heart as you rub my palm
I smile, because I love you
My heart hears what you can not tell me
‘I love you, too’
There have been so many mornings,
Spring, summer, fall, winter with the sun upon us
‘Because I love you’ we say.
Whiskers touch my face and waken me.
My hand reaches out to you.
My heart hears what you can not tell me
‘Not today, but soon…….’
Winter sun shines upon you and you wake
Your eyes tell me what you can not say,
And I hear what you can not tell me
‘Please, today’
As I hold you close and let you go,
My hand caressing your face,
‘Because, I love you’ I say.
Winter sun on my face,
I close my eyes and turn towards it
I see you and I smile,
Because, I love you.
I remember then, and the tears come
The pain of losing you as fresh
I surrender to the tears, and still I smile
Because I love you
Winter sun on my face,
I close my eyes and turn towards it
I see you and I smile,
I remember then, and the tear comes
I embrace it, and still I smile
Because I love you.
