Do you smack your violets around a little bit?

U.P., MI(Zone 5a)

Hi Everyone,
I was just reading some info at another violet site and they were talking about the benefits of giving your slow blooming avs a little whack on the edge of a table to get them to start blooming again,.
Apparently, this shocks their system. They think their in danger, so their job is of course to make flowers, and they start flower production just in case. It sounds kind of mean to me but hey whatever it takes right?, lol.

So is this crazy talk or does this work? Anyone ever tried it? I guess there was an article in avs magazine awhile ago on this subject.

Thanks,
Sue

hee hee ... I am laughing out loud here! I can just "see" everyone whacking their little AV's on the sides of their plant stands, right now!

:)

.......... be back later, gotta go smack a few AV's! If it makes them bloom, I'll let y'all know!

Instead of smacking them around (LOL at the same image here), you could also try repotting them... that'll shake up their roots a bit and give them some fresh, looser potting mix also... repotting often leads to reblooming in short order!

halven,t tryed smack ing them but i sure have dropped plenty of them, that seems to help

Mansfield, TX(Zone 8a)

LOL I can just see everyone running around slamming the AV pots down! I may give it a try - DH already thinks I've lost my mind :-)

I may not get violent with my violets but I may give them a tap or two.
My husband thinks I'm nuts too :) (this just might prove it)

This is abuse...I'm callin' the cops! lol jk

I can just see people wacking pots against the table, "BLOOM!! Dang you!!!!" lol I think I like critter's idea of repotting, but I guess if you're in a hurry...lol

LOL no I have never tried smacking them around but does throwing the plants and stand over on the floor count?? Can't remember if that worked either...

Off to do a study........ :o) tossing on floor compared to smacking.....hehehehehehe

Let the smacking around begin. lol

I'm going to try smacking a few around a bit and see if it starts them blooming.

This is the funniest thread I've seen in a while.

Well, let's not smack around the ones we are trading Monday. I think it should be an individual choice whether to smack or not. I respect both views. HA ! This is so funny.

This really has been a good laugh. I'm anxious for somebody to tell us if it works or not. LOL

U.P., MI(Zone 5a)

It's to soon to tell for me but I have been giving them a little tap here and there. I also wipe off their little leaves with a terry cloth dish towel. I'm alway grooming and fussin' with them. I'm sure when they see me coming they start shakin' in their little violet boots wondering what I'm going to be doing to them next, lol.

Can't you just hear them saying to each other "Oh, no!! Here she comes again. Do you suppose she is going to hit us today?"

U.P., MI(Zone 5a)

Yep, that's exactly what I think they're saying and they're all alone. Nobody can hear they're little violet screams but me, lol.
Actually It's seems like they like all the pampering I've been giving them :)

I hope everyone knows I'm just kidding, no plants or animals were harmed. I'm even a vegetarian, honest!
But I do give them a tap now and again for the heck of it, lol!
