Hi all. I got a shell-less egg today, and I want to add calcium to the gals' diet. I know some of you feed your chickens shells from eggs to help with that, and lord knows we have enough eggs here
. So I've boiled some eggs. What do I do now? How do you do it? I don't want to create a bunch of egg eaters, who will help themselves to the eggs just laid. Thoughts?
Feeding eggs to chickens w/o turning 'em into raw egg eaters
We keep the eggshells, and rinse them off, then crush them when they're dry. They go into the container of chicken scraps we feed the girls every day. They are not recognizable as eggs when they get them.
Also, I always keep a feeder of oyster shells in the coop.
backyardhens,and zeppy,
That is a good idea... I will have to do that...
Look at the Rooster or not a rooster....
can you tell from a pic????
Tracey
I have some of that, but I just want to make sure they are really eating it, because they don't seem to. do they really eat the shells?
Mine love shells. Crumble some up and throw them into the coop.
I do the exact same thing Zeppy does. I keep all egg shells from hatched eggs and eggs I cook with, rinse them and crush them up. I simply toss a handful over into the coops as am feeding and they gobble it right up! :)
BYH, did you get your little ones yet???? I was thinking it was about time for them to arrive?
Belinda

It was a major ordeal, as they got lost, but they all arrived safe and sound. I'll post tonight. I'm the happiest chicken mom a chicken momma can be! weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
YYYYYYYEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't wait to see the pics! I am sure you are doing the happy dance right now! I'll keep my eyes wide open for your babies!

Poor things... They got LOST????? I know you were haveing a fit!!! Get them settled and take lots of pics we are so ,past waiting!!!! LOL!!!!
What I do is hard boil the eggies and smash them up with the shells and they love them. I also give them to the babies for treats, they eat it all up. I usually hard boil my silkie eggs because I end up so many eggs at the end of the week.
Cathy
thats what I do too
