My Miss Scarlet has gone broody and is setting on 7 eggs. How long before they hatch? Will they hatch at the same time? Is there anything I need to do?? I'm new to this and haven't got a clue....
Thanks for the help!

How long before my eggs hatch?
It takes 21 days and 2 days to dry out and then put a light over them babys..

Glenda_Michigan,
How is every thing???
Tracey
Well...... The first thing I did was put a small X on each egg with a pencil, so that I would know which ones (might) be fertilized by The Colonel before he went to his new home. Then each day, I would remove the eggs that did not have an X on them, that were laid by the other hens - after The Colonel left. Yesterday, while Miss Scarlet was outside, off the nest for a little bit, I ran into the coop to check out the eggs. There I found 5 eggs - NOT 7 - and none of them had an X on them! I assume that the X rubbed off as she sat on them and moved them around. So, I grabbed a Sharpie and put an X on the 5 eggs, hoping that she won't wear off a permanent marker. Who knows now which ones might be fertilized and which ones won't be. I'll probably end up with some rotten ones. I think I might try to find/buy some fertilized eggs and slip them under her while she's in the "broody" mood. ....Do you think that will work??
Yes it will work out for you and new chicks or you could buy a incabator and wait for 21 days for them to hatch and wait for 2 more days until they dry out...
Tracey
How is every thing going?? good luck!! Did any thing hatch yet
and besure to send pics???
Tracey
Nothing yet. But she's still setting on the eggs! I've looked at the calendar and from what I can remember, I think tomorrow, Monday, will be about 14 days. So, I still have a week to go - give or take. I'll make sure to post pictures if I get any babies. ;)
Is it ok for her to hatch them right inside the coop in the box where they lay their eggs?
Yes it's okay right where they are!!! Did they hatch yet???
Tracey
Here's the rest of the story....
Miss Scarlet finally gave up and none of the eggs ever hatched. Got me???
Glenda_Michigan,
Do you have a incabator???
Has she set any more eggs yet???
It takes 21 days to hatch the eggs..
Sorry she didn't stay on the eggs..
Maybe she will try again to sit on them..
How old is she???
Some times they are not ready to sit..
Tracey
Hi Tracey!
She sat on the eggs for 3+ weeks, and came off about a week or so ago. ...If I'm remembering correctly.
I do not have an incubator.
She has not tried to set on any more eggs.
Miss Scarlet is about 13 months old.
I've already gotten rid of the old eggs. :- /
Oh well, I've got 5 new chicks in the brooder, so I'm "good to go!"
Do you have any older chickens???
If so put the eggs under the hens that are all ready sitting on eggs
it would help them hatch..
Tracey
