Is this a Rooster????
Everyone tells me it's a Rooster but I don't know about that...
Rooster or not a Rooster
The one that is white colored is the one that might be the Rooster but I'm not sure..
Tracey
These are Red sex links and they are 5 weeks old...
Tracey
they're so pretty.
i don't know. i thought I had two roosters that turned out to be hens, so who knows?
were they straight run or sexed when you got them?
If they are all sexlinks, then they should been sexed correctly. That is the whole point of sex-links. There is a difference between the girls and boys as chicks. a white spot, i think.
They were mixed up at the farmers market. They are sexlinks and no one told me what the chicks are female and male...
Tracey
I thought I had read somewhere that sex link roosters are white, the females red. Found this at wikipedia:
Red Sex Links or RSL are poultry whose sex can be easily determined upon hatching. The Red Sex Link female is a buff or red chick while the males are completely white.
RSL hens mature to one of three different colorations:
Buff with white or tinted undercolor (such as Golden Comet, Rhode Island Red crossed with Rhode Island White)
Red with White or tinted undercolor (Cinnamon Queen)
Red with Red undercolor (Delaware crossed with Production Red). In this color pattern it is almost impossible to distinguish daughters' color from father's color.
Roosters mature to white with gold, red and/or black saddle, neck and wing feathers. Both have yellow legs and horn colored beaks.
Hart, could you tell from pix????
Or do I go to look up red sex lenks???
The pix is up above 1 white and 4 red or brown.
Tracey
Tracey, if you read what I posted above, the roosters are white or white with another color and the hens are buff or red
So I'd say the white one is a rooster, the rest are hens
Looks like he's the only one with the doohickey under the chin too
Sorry for all the paragraphs, my period key isn't working
Yeah, I have a black sexlink and they have males with no spot on their heads and females with a white spot on their head when born ( or maybe the opposite, I can't remember, LOL)
Good thing you only took one white one, huh? haha
I think he is a cockerel, looks like a Ben to me(ben around these quiet hens too long,,,time for me to make a little noise)He will probably start to try and crow,,soon!
But ! Hey ! What do I know?I have an araucanna that I think is a turkey!
"The invariable mark of wisdom, is to see the miraculous in the common"
I think that Ben Emerson Turkeysworth said that! But ,,then again I am not too sure.

Tracey, looks like you've got just the right combination! Can't beat those odds, can you? Won't be too much longer and those sex links will start producing eggs for you. Are you going to hatch them, or do you know yet? Best of luck with them!

the roosters name is nick..
Without an incubator, there isn't a whole lot you can do, except leave them right where she had them. Do you have a nest box for her where she can get comfy & broody? Usually, with a nest box they will only get off to eat, drink and stretch their legs a bit. Nick is a good lookin' Roo! :-) Let me know how the silkie eggs go!
Huuum! Nick,,,not Ben? Oh well, how could I presume to name anothers chicken.
I know ,,since his name will be Nick, you can always change it to whatever you want to.
An MIRC thing! You need to start getting up early,,,like 4:00A.M. ----- and go outside and start to cock-a-doo-dool-doooooo---,,, just to see if you get any responce from him!
LOL, just kidding.
Yes I have 2 for the silkies layers and one for rooster Barberaty
To..
No I'm in bed at that time and the olny day I get up is The day I have after thanksgiving for christmas shopping.....
LOLOLOLOLO)LO..
Tracey
Chicks all say hi ladys...
Can hens lay little baby chicks with out a male???
Tracey
No, Tracey. You have to have a rooster to have babies.
Thank you Hart,
The bus driver that brings my son home said that you didn't and I just had to ask.. Thanks.
Tracey , The hen that lays the eggs must have a Rooster around before she lays the eggs! They "Court" and "Mate", Then she will lay eggs, after the nest is full of eggs or whenever she feels she has enough eggs to hatch she will go Broody. At this point, She no longer needs a Rooster around! She then will "set"! After 21 days the new chicks will hatch ! I hope this wasnt too graffic!
NO, that was totally the PBS kids science show version! Love it.
No it is good for me..
And tell your chicks to behave them selfs.....
