Water cress in my pond!!!

Virginia Beach, VA

I gave my kois water cress last fall and now I have plenty. I normally buy water cress and eat it as salads or saute in meats. Anyway I asked my husband if he wants some and he said NO WAY!!!!The kois are swimming there. I cooked the shrimp in garlic and oyster sauce, set it aside and used the broth to cook the cress and could not help it but try. He ended up eating a lot!!! Try it you might like it!!!! Bellie

What is the difference, wild water cress grows in streams and you can bet that cows, fish & birds poop in there and wild fish have many more diseases and parasites than our fish do.

You are right and I will continue to eat them cooked. Bellie

What's the matter flkoifarm, don't you eat water cress?

Water cress is a good source of iron and cooking it kills any microbes if there are any. Bellie

Besides fish poo, some of the stuff you put into ponds for water treatment, bacteria boost, any algaecide and certainly fish medications would not be considered a health tonic. Water plants uptake all of that. You are eating whatever was in the water with the plants. It's up to you. Know your pond.

I do not add bacteria in my pond and who knows where the water cress in the market comes from. Bellie

What I get in the store is grown hydroponically - I guess they use chemicals in that water, too, but I would hope they are at acceptable levels. Who knows? Can we eat anything safely?

I would never eat that. It just freaks me out!!! IMHO. ewwww!!!! lol

If we knew what was in half of your food we wouldn't eat any of it probably.
