Hi I'm new just got my subscription started
Where I live I have a big problem with slugs I think I have every kind there is. I have always used dead line, none of my animals have ever thought it, I have a new puppy and as far as that go's he has to have everything in his mouth so I don't use it anymore. I ordered so Ecar-Go from Gardens Alive, Just arrived would like to know if anyone else has had any luck with it.
The slugs are eating everything.

Thanks for the ideas

BOUQUETS and a big welcome Tilly! Used to live near the Sound over a year ago, so I'm sending waves from the prairie. Ohhh, do I remember the slugs... they partied every night in my gardens! I used the Slug bait with moderate results, along with the shallow bowls of beer.

Welcome Tillysrat!
Slugs...Ugh! I have battled them for years. I do use a product called "Sluggo" and it seems to help. It doesn't eliminate them completely but it keeps the poplulation down. I also save my mahonia leaves (holly-like leaves) that drop and place them around my tender leaved plants. Those slimy slugs don't like crawling over those razor sharp leaves. Good luck with your slugs. Let us know if you find something that works.
I look foward to seeing you in the Garden here!

Age~ now that's a tip I've not heard before, will use that today as DH just trimmed the holly. See TIlly DG is a place where we all can learn, share and have fun in the garden.

Like that Idea I'll try that too I have holly bushes do they have to be dryed or fresh or does it matter I'm willing to try anything. But still have got to let escar-go give ti a try

Tilly,
I used the dried ones because they tend to become even sharper once dried. I'd give the Escar-go a try. It is the same as the product I use called Sluggo. It is an iron phosphate formula. I believe I'd have better results if I used the Sluggo more regularly but it is expensive $20 for 2.5 lbs. I have four gardens with hostas (slugs favorite food) so it take quite a bit to keep all the gardens covered. I have also heard (it may have been posted here) that some people use dried pine needles for the same effect. Let us know how it goes.

I known pine needles don't do much good. I am surrounded by the trees

I heard roughly crushed marble chips are supposed to protect from slugs. It doesn't kill them, it just keeps them away from the plants. I'm doing it this year, so I'll let you know whether or not my hosta get chomped.

Although this year isn't a good test. it's been so cold and rainy the hosta are growing unmolested. Obviously the slugs don't like the weather.

Cheers from Delaware

Hey Tillysrat,
Thanks for the update. I ran out of Sluggo last week. Its been raining a lot here so I'll really need to get some down soon. I have already seen a few of those slimy critters. Like I have said, I haven't found any remedy that will totally eliminate them. I have even been known to sneak out early in the morning and pick them off. I use hemostats so I don't have to touch them. Ick... My surrounding neighbors don't grow the gourmet slug food that I do so I think they all migrate to my yard. Good luck! Keep after 'em. :)
