CLOSED: Elephant Ear Giveaway
OMG...cant believe you are giving them away....i will be right there (grin)....by the way mine is growing along....
Joni,
C'mon over, you can have as many as you want. I have a feeling that a lot of them are going to end up on the compost heap. Maybe I should find a HUGE box and try to arrange a mega-trade.
Your colues are doing great, by the way. I'm waiting until they get big enough to take cuttings from.
Steve
how big do they get?
Joni,
Last year was the first year I grew it, and it got around 8 feet tall.
All the plants I'm trading - I must have mailed 15, and have at least that many more - all came from that 1 plant. It gets to the point where pups start growing pups.
i am hooked!!!
Well, come get 'em!
It's fun to see all the different Elephant Ears. They all have their own characteristics. I probably have around a dozen varieties, with more on the way.
Steve
oh my goodness, skaz, could you at least cut the shoots off & send the rhizomes? i'd certainly pay for the privilege, and my growing season hasn't even started.
do you need horseradish? i just discovered that my 2 plants had turned into 20. similar principle as the EE?
...........dang and I just got back from Orlando! Flew out the day you posted.
if you reconsider mailing, please post!
Suzy
Skaz-Me too! If you cut off the top, and rinse off the dirt, I would pay the postage too. I would even take more than one. Add me behind Summerkid and Suzy if you start a mailing list.......We only want to help you, you know.........
You may be finding out how many will fit in a flat rate box... I am looking for an EE plant that will grow well in high heat and shade. I have a perfect spot if I can find one that will grow in shade.
Tammie
Tammie,
They all grow in shade - in fact, they prefer shade.
I can't box these up. They're massive, as tall as I am. Even if I could, there isn't anything I need in trade. I was just looking for a way to keep them off of the compost pile.
Steve
Hi Steve,
Please save me what ever you have and I'll pick them up with the Mickey Mouse on my way to Molly's RU on the 5th.
Thanks,
Jan...
BTW, I found you a small bronze phormium out there I will bring with me.
Hi Jan,
I'll save whatever I can get into a pot. I need to clear them out of the garden. I'm sure there will be several of them.
I haven't forgotten your Mickey Mouse, either - it's waiting for you.
Steve
Thanks
If you mail just the roots , put me on the list ! What in the world do u feed them ?
Elva
Yes, if you cut off the roots, rinse them and compost the tops, we in the north would LOVE to have one of these big guys....As previously noted above, I would pay to have one or more shipped north. Please consider. After you have described them further, you are making us all drool!
No money changes hands here on Dave's - it's not allowed. I wouldn't want it anyway.
I've sent a lot of plants for postage - more than I can count. It's time consuming, and I have a large garden that I need to plant. I'm way behind; may garden was planted by the end of March last year.
Steve,
I can come up Saturday and get whatever you have if you can wait that long. I'll even help you dig. LOL.
I know what you mean about being behind. I don't have my annuals out yet. I have never been this late before but that cold weather around Easter has hurt my schedule.
Jeri
skaz421,
you've got d-mail....
thanks!
Jan
I apologize if you thought I meant to buy them. I only meant for shipping.
Understand your time constrants. They just sounded so unique and exciting.
Hi,
I would love a couple for the cost of shipping. Please let me know if you still have any and would do so for shipping.
Thanks,
Jane
These are for pick up only.
Thanks, Jan.
Everybody - I would if I could. I just don't have the time. I'm sorry.
If you look them up in PlantFiles, there are 7 vendors that have them for sale:
