Firefox can not find server-

Bought a new lap top a year ago---came with Firefox installed as default search option----lately I am getting the same window----"Firefox cannot find server"---well I could understand that if I was doing some really exotic stuff---but I'm not----when Firefox can't find Google or Dave's Garden something is definitely screwy----one site told me to delete cookies---which I did ----helped a little on that site----but not for long----this is an aggravating problem------any suggestions????-------bill
