I'm the tall chicken

Shenandoah Valley, VA

They've been trying to get up on the water bottle and roost for the past couple of days. One of the barred rocks managed it this evening.

Anytime anyone comes near the box, this Ameraucana is watching everything they do.

You know , they are! My babies are now in the Preteen stage, losing all the baby fuzz, growing feathers , getting leggy, and the funniest little stray long hair feathers on some of their heads, grandkids call it Chicken hair! I love to see the new babies, all so fuzzy and tiny! They grow so quickly, you forget how cute and tiny they were! Thats why I love to see others baby pics!
Your babies look wonderful Hart! Looks like you will need to build them a tiny roost soon! When they start flying on top of the waterer that means their independance is starting to show and they are learning to be "Big Guys and Gals"! Yayyyy!

I put a stick in there for them yesterday. You can see it in some of the pictures. I have one end stuck through a piece of cardboard to hold it up. Several of them have been walking up and roosting on it.

I really enjoy seeing everyone's pictures too. It's fun for me to see what they're going to look like in a few weeks. Oh, heck, I just like seeing everyone's chickens. LOL

adorable!

Betcha that watchful Ameraucana's a rooster. Every chick I've had that's displayed that sort of vigilant behavior has turned out to be a cockerel.

Lovely chicks!

My first roosts are usually pencils or rulers about and inch off the ground, attached to the cardboard walls of cereal boxes. Makes the babies feel so grown up!

Bite your tongue, Zeppy! LOL They're supposed to all be hens except for the roosters they included for warmth on the trip. I know sometimes mistakes are made, though.

Where'd you get them, hart? My last batch from McMurray had 3 more roosters than it was supposed to (out of 25!)

I got them at Ideal. I only ordered 10 so hopefully my statistical chances of the order being right would be better.

I really don't think they're roosters. Both of the Ameraucanas like to watch anyone who comes close to the box but one of them moreso. The ones I know are roosters don't pay any attention at all.

I'm sure you're right. My ameraucanas are very different than the other hens. They certainly are bent on escaping at all times.

Hart, How are the little cutes doing?
I had another egg from the silkie yesterday and she was mad at
me for taking it but the egg was so small.. KB told me I can't hatch any eggs... But should I???? I don't have a incubator
but I'm hopeing for one on my birthday June 20 from my mom and mother inlaw....KB says no Bators. But if I get one maybe
he will change his mind... He named the silkie rooster Mr.Barberaty
And 2 females as well Mrs.Barberaty and Misteris Barberaty...
From the south park episode....

They're doing fine. A fellow DGer came by last night and picked up the roosters. The girls don't seem to mind being without their guys. LOL

Why can't you just let the hen hatch the eggs if you want babies?
