Well, when you found that first egg, did you feel just like a little kid again, that just found the prettiest Easter egg ? I know I sure did when I found the first one. Sometimes I still do if it's been a while and I'm anxious for them to start laying again.

Congratulations ! It's so amazing how excited we get over something so seemingly common. Maybe we're impressed because it's a 'girl-thing'. hehe.

The rooster may look really handsome, and do a lot of noisy crowing, and
strut around looking cool and getting attention.................

But only a HEN can lay an Egg. ....................... :)

Seeeeee!!!!! You just had to wait Mama! Now arent you Proud! You kinda hate to take it from her dont you? You kinda think after all that waiting she might get her feelings hurt! Dont worry she wont mind, she'll just lay another!!!

WHen we got our first egg, I was so proud that I blew out the insides and kept it in a little window box for posterity, in our kitchen. lol. it's crazy, what can I say.

My barred rock lays big brown eggs that have small dark brown freckles.

How old where they when they started to lay eggs??
Tracey

well, i know other people's start sooner, but mine were a good 8 months old. we got our very first egg on Christmas! it was a Christmas miracle!

since then, all the rest of our girls have started by the fall, which would put them around 5 or 6 months.

My barred rock looks like this:
Pretty Girl that she is :)
Her name is Pandora, due to her cleverness. And her best buddy, Oona McCool, a black sexlink.

They are fighting over the same box. :)
