Well I just got home from Home Depot and it is not close to our home.. Is about hour and 15mins away... Well I got a passiflora alatocaerulea and I did not read it I just picked it up because on the lable it has fruit on it with the flower.. Well now I find out it does not bear fruit, this to me is misleading... I have 3 very little babies growing but I wanted one for this year... I am going to cry now..

No Fruit
You may be able to hand polnate it with a diff Passion flower vine does it have Flowers Yet ? Paul
It has buds on it... I looked it up online and they say it cant bear fruit... I have another one who comes up every year and also does not bear fruit... How do you hand polinate?
Thanks,
Susan
The passiflora you have is a hybrid between P. alata & P. caerulea. The flowers on that hybrid are sterile & cannot fruit.
Ok, now can you tell me when looking for these grown what I should look for ??? this one had a tag with a picture of fruit and all on it... So what should I look for? I was very upset about this..

I guess I'm surprised that you found something at Home Depot that was labelled with a genus and species name, often you don't even get that so at least you're able to find out now that it's not the type you wanted rather than having to wait until later when it doesn't make fruit for you. Home Depot has a nice return policy, you can return plants anytime up to a year after purchase if you kill them or something, so if you really want one that will make fruit I would just wait until the next time you're going and take them back. I know it's not close to your house but I'm guessing sometime in the next year you'll be back there? There are plenty of mail order places that sell all sorts of passies so you can probably find some fruiting ones that way if you don't have any place nearby that has them.
I know I can order on internet but I was so excited when I saw this... I am taking it back for I did not even like the flower it has.... Thank you all..
If I found a passion fruit in a store could I plant those seeds?
Susan
yes
With passiflora-there are hundreds of species, only a few dozen of which are edible. P. edulis is the most commonly grown for its fruit. This is the type you see in the store. Make sure it is the purple one, not the yellow variety(harder to fruit by itself).
