Today my newly-acquired-in-the-autumn Arum creticum has an open spathe! It has a delicate, sweet scent too. I planted it between the peonies where at the moment it gets dappled shade, but later it will be more shaded. It's supposed to like full sun but at least it will be well drained, maybe it will do OK there, I was desperate for a place to put it! I started it off in a pot in the greenhouse.
Does anyone else have this, or other Arums? Please post your pics!
Show us your Arums!
That's a great spathe and closeup pic!
Thank you pheitmeyer!
They are supposed to be hardy in zones 7 to 9, but I wonder if you grow them in your heat as they are native to Mediterranean regions.
Beautiful!!
It is Brian, have you grown these?
That's a lovely tropical garden! I got an A italicum marmoratum in the aurumn too, but I don't think it will flower this year. Looking forward to seeing a 'real' picture of the spathe!
I am growing a few species. A few flowered already and I did not get to even look at them I have been so busy. I have some photos around of the different forms I grow.
That's the trouble when you have so many different things on the go! If you ever get time please post your pics!
I also bought A. dioscoridis, the darker one from Turkish stock and A. cyrenaicum x concinnatum. I don't think they will flower this year.
Beautiful creticum, wallaby1. Love that color and the saucy spin on the flipped tip.
The foliage looks so much like Zantedeschia aethiopica.

I was given 3 bulbs , yesterday, and I planted pronto, in full shade.I have fallen in love w/arum italicum, but this is the first i have planted.----Question!!do you think#1, will they make it, and #b2, will I see a bloom this year, or maybe i planted dead bulbs, hope I have started my arum, but won't quit. Mike
mqiq, they should be OK but don't let them dry out until they root, and keep watered in the growing season. Organic compost added will help.
If they didn't have any growth they were probably stored in cold conditions. They are supposed to flower in Aril or May, so I doubt if you will get flowers this year.
They are hardy, more info here,

Thanks, Wallaby, for that info, I think that the bulbs were shipped inFeb., or Mar., and the person forgot them, and gave them to me, thinking it was the end of the road for them. The web site will help me much, thanks, again. Mike
Janet, that is beautiful, love it.
Can I see another addiction comming on Vi? They are lovely, it doesn't flower for long but that makes it all the more desirable. I look forward to seeing it again next year.
My second arum to flower. This is A. cyrenaicum X concinnatum, a natural hybrid. It has a strong scent, not unpleasant, I would say more interesting but I can't liken it to anything.
The spathe can be up to 16" tall, this is about twice the length of my hand around 12". The leaves have black spots on them, I got this on 11th November last year and the leaves grew over winter in the unheated greenhouse.
My only complaint is it faces the wrong direction!
That is just beautiful!!

{sharp inhalation} then ohhhhhhhhh!
The markings are so sharp and intense. I agree, beautiful foliage too.
