Trouble with liners

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

I recently got a couple plants and a couple liners, all arrived looking gorgeous and beautiful. The plants still look great, but I think my liners are going to bite the dust, they're not looking good at all. I took them and planted them in 4" pots with Miracle Gro potting mix (I grow all my other plants including other hibiscus in this too and have never had problems). I've been keeping them outside in a sheltered area that doesn't get direct sun. The first day or two after I potted them up they started to look a bit sad, and they haven't perked up at all since then and are if anything looking worse. If anyone can tell me what I did wrong or if there are tricks to getting liners to be happy please let me know, I'd love to get in on the hibiscus liner coop but now I'm afraid to try any more for fear I'd just be throwing my money away.

Make sure they are not too wet. Soil that is too wet will make them look "sad," and sometimes we kill them with too much love (too much water). Check the roots, too. If they are beginning to look brown and soft, cut these parts off and repot. Make sure they're getting enough light and warmth. I'd also contact the seller about replacement policies. Hope this helps. julie

Thanks Julie, I think maybe it's the warmth thing, our nights are always pretty chilly and the bigger plants seem OK with that but maybe it's too much for the little ones. Maybe I'll try bringing them inside and put them under the lights with my seedlings for a little while.

Hope they do better for you. I lost a lot of mine this winter even though I tried my best to protect them. That's one reason I decided to do the co-op. julie
