I know this has been asked before, but I didn't know how to search for related threads.
My neighbor bought some daff bulbs and never got around to planting. Can she plant now for next year? or can she store now and then plant in fall? We are in z9.
She also bought tulips. same questions. thanks for your help.
Forgot to plant daffs, can I plant now for next year blooms?
I think that Bulbs need to be planted in the fall. BUt that could just be one of those gardener myths that everyone does but maybe isn't necessary
I vote for Plant Now and keep your fingers crossed. I don't think you can store them and expect them to survive. I'll bet if your neighbor opens up the packages they will find the bulbs already sprouting. Plant and keep well watered. The blooms may blast or be short or distorted this year, but as long as roots form and the leaves get up and have a few weeks of sunlight I think food will be stored ready for the flower cycle next year.
I have had better luck with late planting of daffs and hyacinths than with tulips. I have even thrown them on the compost pile only to find them blooming there a few weeks later.
thanks everybody. I called Easy to Grow Bu;bs and they said to plant daff bulbs and that they would shoot out greens but no flowers in 2007. Flowers likely in 2008 and thereafter.
Was told to toss the tulips as they're really annuals in our zone.
