Could someone help me, please?

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

PrettyLady24 just offered to send these to me for postage. I am so very excited as I only have one brug I bought locally in a 4" pot. She even wrote what kind they are....what do I do next? I don't know if there is an up or down? Could you tell me what kind of soil to use to get them started....thanks so much

Well, I'm not the resident brug professional but if I truly didn't know top from bottom I would cut them into 2-3" pieces and lay the flat on ton of the soil and cover them very lightly. I use Miracle Grow potting mix. Then just wait for leaves to start. They will grow up straight and are perfect for making a "standard" or a tree-type plant.
Good luck and God bless. Welcome to Brugmania :)) LOL

thanks....I kept looking at each piece thinking that one end would be smaller giving me a clue as to top and bottom ...evidently they each came from a big brug.....

Take a look at the leaf scars (The big dents on the stem.). Growth of new branches start just above the leaves. These show as tiny nubs just above the scar. Plant the cuttings so that the tiny nubs are above the leaf scars. Look at the cutting second from the bottom. The top side of the cuttings is on the right side. The part that goes into the soil is located on the left.

You can do them either way but if you plant them up and down make sure you put at least 1 node underground. Even if you leave no nodes out of the dirt, they usually then will send up a sucker.

They look dry to me though so I would bag them for 24 to 36 hours before I potted them up. Recut the ends taking off as little as possible. Then take a clear plastic bag that you ran water in but then emptied so it is still a bit beaded inside. Put your cup with water with the cuttings soaking right in the bag and seal the bag. Keep out of direct sun, and not where it is hot. You can even leave them inside if your outside is too hot. After they look rehydrated, you can take them out and pot them in soil.

I personally do not put different brugs in the same cup in case one is sick. But if they were together when you got them, it probably will not matter.

GOOD LUCK!
