First let me say I am not an avid bird watcher. I have seen almost every kind of bird there is to name and some with no names. Something happened this morning will live with me until my last day. I live next to a small Country Club here in Alabama. I let my dog Boodroo out to walk. As I was walking over a ridge toward a bass lake I saw a white head sticking up. I froze I was pretty sure what it was so I started to retrace my steps and go get my camera. Well it saw me and proceeded to fly off. It was a full grown Bald Eagle not more than fifty yards from me. I will have my camera tomorrow and he will probably be in South Africa. To say the least they are beautiful. Sure hope I get a picture.
Bald Eagle
Amazing sighting! Hope you get to see it again.
How I hope you see him again - they are out of this world!!!
I have a friend I go visit on occasions and they have lake that you have to drive across the dam to get to their home and there is a big snag of a tree that an Eagle sits in well the other week I went to visit and there in the tree was a grown Bald Eagle and a young one me without my camera again.
LOL - I suspect you will be developing a new habit of always having your camera!!!
I live in Southern Indiana and the Bald Eagle was reintroduced into our state several years ago. A few years age, we occasionally saw a bald eagle flying over the gravel pit where I work. Early in January, I got to watch as one built a nest directly north of my ticket window about two hundred yards from the pit. Soon, we saw two flying around and hunting together. They have nested and have at least one eaglelet. We will have to wait and see how many they have when they fledge. We routinely see them hunting, but they are seldom within camera range. I have missed a couple of good shots because I had customers at the time, but I hope to get a decent shot of them soon. It has been great just watching them. They are still rare here and most people here have never seen one in the wild. Will proudly post a picture if I get a good one. Lou
Thanks Lou; that would be great!
