Tampa, FL(Zone 10a)

Finally, getting warm enough for my mini collection of Rex and rhizomes to start growing again.
I grow mine outside.
Persian Brodacde did very well this winter.

I love this Rex. It really hates winter.

I found this one growing in a garden and was allowed to take a small rhizome home to Tampa from Miami. Begonia Imerialis

I have 'fallen' for the dark, almost black leaves of this one.

I have been chopping this one up and trading it, I think it is B. Benigo?

Here is what happens to a cane begonia when left out in the rain, in the winter...

Here is what it should look like, Lucky for me the wholesalers have this one for $6 for an 8".

Wow! I love all of your begonias. I had several varieties last summer which did beautifully outside in my shade garden. I put them in the basement under grow lights at the beginning of the winter and they all did okay until a couple of months ago. It's too cold and damp in the basement. I truly love all the begonias and think they are just a gorgeous plant. Yours look great!
This pic is from some large containers I did last summer and you can see the 3 Rex in the center. This pic is the first day I planted the container. You should have seen them by the end of the summer. They got huge!

MsMolly, next time you try the basement find a heat mat (aka propagation mat). Some of them come pre-set to 72*. I have used them in the past and they work great, not sure how they affect the electric bill. I bet ironing my shirts costs more.

Here is an old photo from last summer, I have used it before and I still like to see it once in awhile, taken at a friends home. She is very good with plants.

And, here's one from my shady place last summer when I first planted it. I wish I had taken one at the end of the summer .... it was very lush and healthy.

I try and take only after pictures. I used to get before and after, but, no one ever had much to say about the before pics-always the after pics.

This is someone else's yard, from last year.

Dale, very nice begonia's as usual. Benigo looks quite a bit like Maurice
Amey. Benigo's lvs seem to be smaller than Maurice Amey's so I think your's is
Benigo.

MrsMolly, your plants look great in your before pic. You got off to a nice start

Maurice Amey last summer pic.

Wild begonia I got for free at a local nursery.

Another from the same place. I like the wild ones, they make a great perennial groundcover here.

hey there dale, may I ask you where you acquired your persian brocade. I've been looking for it since I moved a year ago. I love that plant and it did so well for me....
