Do any of you ponders know about snakes?

If so, please take a look at the picture I just posted on the Wildlife forum. Would like confirmation that it's not a dangerous one!

Hi Jo, I don't know anything about snakes, but in the future if you're leading someone to a thread on another forum, it's very helpful to give them the link, they'll be far more likely to try and help if they don't have to go find it.

Hope you find out what the snake is, I wouldn't want one in my pond!

You'd better get that snake out of your pond. I had a nice population of frogs in mine until a snake showed up last year and ate almost all of them. I imagine he would have done the same with the fish once he was through with the frogs.

You can go to the hardware or farm supply store and get a box of snake repellent and sprinkle it on the ground around the pond. Make sure it's not in the pond at the time or give it a way out. That worked like a charm on the snake in my pond.

I don't know what kind of snake it is but I'll bet my SO would. I'll have him look at the picture.

Looks like a banded water snake to me. I had one in my pond a while back and it ate most of my fish and chased away my frogs. When caught, it puts out a horrific scent. I now have my pond triple netted to keep out herons, snakes, cats, etc.

hart, I wish I knew there was such a thing as snake repellent last year! Durn snake ate every one of my precious shubunkins I got from Pixydish and I wasn't going to even have fish this year. If I can find the repellent you've given me the nerve to try again.

am almost positive it is a Midland Water Snake. But I haven't seen it since I got that picture and am hoping perhaps our four large dogs scared it away. I really don't have an issue with snakes in general (snakes gotta live too, don't they) and wouldn't even mind if it ate a few small goldies (I have an overpopulation as it is), but I'd hate to lose any of my precious frogs or toads. So I'll look for that repellent and hope to have it on hand in case it shows up again.
thanks all -jo

I showed the picture to my SO but he said he couldn't tell from the picture what it was. I wouldn't wait to get the repellent. It will take out your entire frog population before you know it.

The one in my pond did in just a few days.
