Question about hellebores.

Mount Pleasant, MI(Zone 5b)

Hey guys,

It's been a while since I posted last, so hope everyone is doing well.

Has anyone had any luck with hellebores? If so, what are some good performers for our area?

The area I have in mind is partial wooded shade, with relatively damp, rich soil.

thanks a bunch!

Nick i have one on the north side of my house in the hosta bed and it bloomed this yr!
I dont remember the name-seems to be 2 different plants as the flowers are different

I would try them they are really pretty!

I have one that I have had for at least 8 years that is planted underneath my blue spruce. It gets partial sun and does very well. I don't remember the name. I would like to have a few more in different colors.

I have 17 and they all bloom wonderfully! That is until this year...they did bloom, but our latest cold snap/snow has made them look rather sad...

I have two planted under a big pine tree and they bloom early and long. The cold weather didn't seem to phase them probably because they were under the canope of the tree.

This is kinda funny I had two on my side yard (east side) for about two years really didnt know what to do with them. I moved them last summer and know I see they have doubled there size over the winter. Im so excited. They didnt blossom this year but I cant wait til next year. They blossom in the early spring. Right? They like acid in the soil. They must because cause I gave them a shot of holly tone. I dont know what color they are or anything. But Im excited when it comes to plants I always say Im excited. Ronna

Mine are blooming right now. I do need to get out and cut off the browned leaves from the last hard freeze we had. I've had mine for several years and have never gotten any to reseed...maybe this will be the year!

Plainwell, MI(Zone 5b)

So it is okay to cut off the browned up leaves?? I dont want to do anything to mess up my plant. Im excited about it actually growing The flowers are so pretty. Question do you use preen on the garden I learned the hard way that if you do the preen kills the seeds that fall to the ground. Just wondering.
