I just checked the bator and 2 of my green/blue eggs are pipping, I can hear chirping in there. It wont be long now. I didn't think they would start tonight but they are. Tomorrow I'll get pictures. I hope this hatch goes well for DH, we are still waiting to see who does a better job, him or mama silkie. I think she's won already, but there could be a tie if he hatches all his eggies. We had a hard time candleing these eggs, all we could really see was an air sac, so we left them all in the bator. I also have 4 silkie eggs in the bator, do you think mama silkie would take on 4 more chicks, or could take on more chicks, or should I leave them in the brooder with the others. What to do, What to do. I guess I should wait until they hatch to be asking these questions, LOL.
Cathy
My Ameraucana's are pipping
I've read if you give her the chicks at night by slipping them under a broody hen you can a lot of times be successful in fostering. But if she's already hatched all of her eggs out I'm not sure if it would work as well. I know that answer wasn't any help, sorry...lol.
Can't wait to see the ameraucana pics. I've got some in the bator and have been struggling to see inside the darker ones. They're only on day # 11 so they have a bit to go yet.
Good luck with the hatch !!

There are 4 little chickies in the incubator this morning, they are all dark in color, so cute. Mama silkie is a little upset, she's not sure where that noise is coming from, not her babies. I'll get pictures as soon as I can, let hope for more to hatch.
Cathy
Tow more born with in min of each other, 1 is dark in color and the other one look like it will be lighter, I will know more when they dry. They are so cute. 8 more ameraucana eggs to go and 4 silkies.

One more pipping, I think it's going to be a long day, LOL. They are starting to dry, one is yellowish, so cute. I think I'll call her Blondy, that is I hope shes a she. Pictures will be coming soon. These 6 are very noisy compared to the silkie babies.
Cathy
Congratulations Mommy!!!!!

Congratulations on the new baby chicks..Any pics????
Tracey
Congrats Cathy! Your chick population sure has been on the rise lately.........don't you LUV it?!?!?!?!?!?! Can't wait to see your pics. I love the Aracauna's color variation. They seem to range anywhere from white, grey, tan, brown, to black. Gorgeous chickens all feathered out. Here is one of my Aracauna hens (in the middle), she seems to love the camera! lol (actually, she knows me as the apple, cucumber, melon, worm feeding person who spoils her daily!) lol
Be sure to post us some pics when you get a chance to...........we are all anxiously awaiting their debut!

Cute Pixs. tracey
We are now up to 8 Ameraucana Babies, and 1 silkie. 2 of our Ameraucan eggs pipped upside down and did not make it, I wish I would have had enough sence to turn them over. But I didn't know they were doing that. I still have 4 green eggies and 2 silkie eggies in the bator, will see if they hatch today. I am happy with this hatch, now if I can only get at least 4 girls. Here are a few pictures.
The silkie babie is still in the bator, I'll get picture later. I think I'm going to introduce her to mama silkie, when she peeps, mama silkie talks to her. I read to introduce them at night, so I'll see what happens. More pictures later.
Cathy
Aaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwww so sweet !!!!
I know what you mean I keep looking at the chicks thinking man I hope it's mostly gals...lol.

Last year we wanted some barred rock hens, we hatched 6 eggies and all were roosters, I was so dissapointed. I still don't have any barred rocks, LOL.
oh dear, LOL. I've got 9 silkie chicks coming, straight run, next week. I've got my fingers crossed they'll be 50/50 ( or dare I hope more gals then guys?) we'll see....
2 more eggies hatched, they are silkies, ones dark in color and ones going to be white, they are so cute. I'll get pictures as soon as I wake up some.
I've got 30 silkie eggs in the incubator, I'm soooooooooo looking forward to them hatching...lol. There are suppose to be some blue splash and it sounds pretty.
Congrats on your hatch !!!

Its like she's saying " Look Ma, No pasty butt" - by the way does that only happen once or should I continue to moniter my crew's cute little bottoms?
Actually I am the "crew" they are the CAST - Cleopatra (americauna), Athena (bantam - white with feathered feet), Sophia (americauna) and Tanis (bantam - black feather feet) - Tanis looks just like Happy Feet here on the forum.
Love the pic's keep them coming. I only access the net here at work, so please keep them coming I enjoy them a lot (have been more then a bit of a lurker)
E, did you want happy feet to be a male or female? I'm hoping for females in my last hatch, 1 rooster would be nice for eggies next year, LOL. Don't tell DH I said that. He already thinks we have to many chickens.
The 2 little silkies are now with mama silkie, we put them with her after dinner, she accepted them beautifully. She gave them both a few pecks on the head and started talking to them. We watched them for about 20 min, her chicks don't seem to be bothered buy the new babies either. I was wondering if they would know to get under mama for warmth and wouldn't you know it, she sat for them and in the went, she's now keeping them warm, I am so happy. She now has 5 babies, 3 are 2 weeks old and 2 are 2 days old. When the weather warms they will go into the coop with mama and not be on there own.
Cathy
Oh Cathy Im so happy for you and your babies! See , you made everything work out fine!
Oh yes Happy Feet is a Roo, and Im very Happy! Hes one of the Japanese bantams and I am hoping to have some good enough for show, that means ,hopefully , enough to create trios, of the best ones to breed! So far that will be Happy Feet , Suna, And Mijikai. Suna and Miji, are the tiniest and that is what Im going for as well as stance and coloration!
Wonderful, wishing you all the best in your new adventure breeding your new babies. Happy feet looks like he will be able to get the job done when it's time.
Cathy
