We went this am... very pretty! The rows of tulips look like a rainbow, I can only imagine how long it takes to plant all those bulbs!
Anyone gone to the tulip festival in Woodburn?
Yes, a group of us here from DG went last year. I enjoyed.
Carol
It is all done mechanically, redtootsiepop. You were not far from me, I am probably three miles from them.
I've been there 3 times. Haven't gone this year though.
I'd never been, really pretty. I thought we were going for me.... but my kids had a blast in the childrens "acre" even doing a tap dance in the wooden shoes. Still, their favorite thing to see are "Steppables"! they yell out whenever they see the little purple plastic pots.
Gone many times...love it. Did not go this year, been extra busy.....
Will go to the Dahlia's this year.
Want to go to the Trade show in August this year too.
D
I'm going to try to see the dahlia's too.
Don't forget we are having a mini-RU at Swan Island hopefully the last weekend of August!!!
We can all meet up there! Meet each other! How cool!
Carol
Hopefully I can go. Remember the time we met at the Tulip Festival enjoyed that.
Just keep me posted please off line as in the summer as you know do not get to go anywhere but the field much...
D
Gee, I didn't even know about the mini RU. When did you plan that?
We could possibly even find a place in Canby for a potluck?
I should add that the Clackamas County fairgrounds are in Canby too and one of those two weekends of Swan Island's show there is a dahlia show/competition at the fairgrounds. That could possibly be the same weekend; I will try to find out when that is; it would be great if it is the same.
Redtootsiepop, if you are up for flower fields consider Schreiner's Iris gardens down 99E about 7 miles south of Woodburn. They have the most awesome display garden; oh my goodness, the irises and all the other perenniels in their display gardens are beautiful and then about two miles from Schreiner's is Adelman's Peonies blooming at the same time. So much to see and so beautiful.
thank you Lenjo! if you say "oh my goodness" right in the middle of a sentence it must be good! I'll definitely take a look see.
Hey, nice pics, Mendy!
As for the mini-RU, we had talked about it on the Dahlia Forum in different posts. Can't remember which ones. Sorry. People just wanted to maybe meet there so I thought it would be fun to do again, like the weekend before Labor Day. Just an idea.
Joann, that sounds like a good idea for a potluck. I am up for that for sure!
Will have to see how the summer goes. I got a new job so.........................life will be different for me now, good different but something new after working for the same company for almost 20 years. Changes aren't the best at my age, LOL
Carol
beautiful pictures, I'll definitely go see these. oh, I'm sore - I pulled out a bunch of grass today ; Yahoo! More room to plant!
Hello everyone!
I am new to gardening in the Williamette Valley & new to Daves. Just read this post and had to share one of my recent Schreiner's photos with you & THANK YOU for mentioning Adelman's! ...I'm going there this week when I go back to finish my Schreiner's tour - just did 4 acres the first time!
Snowpeak in Lebanon is also on the schedule for touring later this week - this is paradise!
Marea, I have just discovered another garden very close to Schreiner's and Adelman's Peonies. When you see the signs for the hosta nursery,I believe it is called Seabright Hosta follow the signs ; it is well worth the trouble too. It is a beautiful setting. Joann
You absolutely must visit Sebright/Mid-America. As mgh shows, the gardens around the house there are stunning! The hostas that are for sale are in the greenhouse. They also have Japanese iris for sale. And then there are those rolling acres of bearded iris which should be peaking soon.
I had seen the sign for a couple of years advertising the hosta and when my dd and I visited we were in awe. It was super. You are so right pardalinum, the grounds around the house are just stunning. Brooks Gardens north of Schreiner off of 99E isn't bad either.
Brooks Gardens? I think I have seen signs for it. What all do they sell? I sense a shopping trip coming on...
Don't waste your time for Brooks, too many mismarked plants. Weedy and unkept...
Darn I will not be able to attend the mini roundup unless the first weekend of Sept because the Far West Trade show is the last weekend of August.

I visited Schreiner's Irises and Adelman's Peonies for mother's day with my son. It was fantastic. Posting some of the many photos below. Also wanted to note that the cut irises (6.00 for a dozen!!) purchased last Sunday have stayed in beautiful form and are still blooming nearly a full week later! Lovely! Everyone that walks past my desk stops to admire them; they have gigantic, beautiful blooms!

I love this time of year, because I'm often driving up I-5 and get to see the Schreiner's blooms from the freeway!
Wonderful photos!
beautiful pictures - how lovely!
oh hosta-rrific! look at that picture !!
So glad to hear you found Seabright, Marea. Both places are incredible. I try to go to Schreiner's for my color fix. Just love it, hoping I can get DH over there today in fact. :) Joann
I went to Sebright Hosta Gardens this spring after we made an appointment but now they are open Friday, Saturday or Sunday through the summer and open Memorial Day and Labor Day too. They have a website www.sebrightgardens.com . Yes they still have iris too and will even dig a daylily I was told if someone really wants a piece of one they have. Thomas and Kirk seemed very nice and their place is oh so gorgeous!!!!!!!!! They bought the place next door to them and are gradually adding its yard into their garden plans.
Schreiners has a gorgeous garden and the fields in full bloom are breath taking. We drove by the Tulip Festival but decided we didn't want to fight the crowd that was there that day so drove slowly to oogle their flowers. The day we were in that area the Gardenpoolusa was going on. It was great fun to go though all the vendors there and I got some neat plants.
Lani
Gorgeous photos everyone!
Lani
Lani, you were that close to me and didn't let me know. Tut, tut, I would have loved to have you visit me just so close to Wooden Shoe and no crowds to fight except maybe Coco and Nikki. Remember we think we might even be related. LOL Seriously next time you are so close; please let me know.
I edited this to say, you were only 3 miles from me, 5 minutes.

Lani, I'm with Joanne.....you were here and didn't give us a hollar?! Would love to have met you! Yes, next time you come please let someone know! :o)
Sorry gals but we were on a tight schedule this time. We plan on going back over there this fall to our friend's 94th birthday party so will try to plan a meeting then. Our friends are a mile or so outside of Amity.
Lenjo I was telling my DH that you lived in that area but he didn't remember me telling him of your DH's grandmother and our last name connections. He wasn't aware of any relatives from that side of the family in Idaho but realizes that families don't maintain contact for many reasons and said that the name is unusual enough that he probably is related somehow to your DH. Shirttail relatives I think is the term for that. I wonder how many of those shirttails tore?
