Hi everybody, I'm new to the bulb forum and need some help. I have quite a few varieties of alliums and they have seeded all over my gardens. How many years before they are old enough to bloom? Especially the larger varieties like the giants. Can I transplant the bulblets to a "nursery area" until then? If so, should I give them any special soil amendments or fertilizers? I have nice friable, well draining soil. Any other advise is greatly appreciated too.

Allium Questions
Chris, I wouldn't move them until the are dormant. Move them to a dedicated bed and then I would use enriched soil and extra water for them when they are small. Small bulbs 2 yrs., the big bulbs 4-5 years, to get up to blooming size-your seasons are pretty short. When they are near blooming size you can add them to your planting scheme. You can speed things up if you have an unheated greenhouse, but, that is a whole new set challenges.
dale--are those red flowers allium? just wondering...
Thanks, Dale - appreciate the help. 4-5 years - wow - I'm not a patient person! Some of them are already 2-3 years old so I guess I can wait a few more years.
Goldfinch, You just need to live in a climate with a longer season :-)
I grew up in Mpls, I know all about short summers. I can live happily ever after without them.
I agree! However I told my DH I don't think we can ever move because I have too much invested in my gardens.
