Dang, everytime I think my impatiens are going to get a break from wet feet and get back to blooming a storm comes along to knock of the blooms and attempt to drown them. In addition, I think I have some plants that refuse to grow/bloom until they get a week solid of sun, so they stay in one stage of growth.
Then I heard of hail and tornados in our area. I'm going to be jittery until sunrise.
Please no hail...please no hail....please no hail...
I think it is all over for now, I am glad you are o.k.
We didn't have hail here tonight, but we had it with the previous storm, no big damage here, so we are grateful.
Josephine.
We had slightly larger than quarter size hail, but everything looks OK. Whew!
Everybody okay??? We had a lot of wind and rain, no hail. We were watching a movie and our weather alert kept going off....'Finally suggested we interrupt the movie to watch the weather just in case we were about to get blown away! Had vision of us explaining to the insurance company how we stayed put while the house collasped around us because we ignored the warning. Looks like it skirted us, but another wave is coming.
Things are goin' to be tense here 'til it passes us ....prob. about midnight...looks kinda bad...lots of red in the radar images.
We had a little bit of hail...don't know how large, but it didn't do a lot of damage...some tattered foliage on some things, but not so much.
Larissa, did your plants fair ok? I know Denton got a lot of the rain and high winds, hail etc. Let us know.
I was just sitting here last night, minding my own business,
when I heard a sound like somebody hitting the house with a
hammer. What the........I looked out the window and it all started
coming down like out of a bucket - hailstones the size of
baseballs ! It was all over in about 5 minutes, but the whole
yard was covered with big and small hailstones. Unbelievable.
I heard we're having freeze warnings for tonight. Oh, joy.
Oh, I hope you didn't have damage to your plants, house, or autos, etc. Mahnot! It looked like it was going to hit the Tx Motor Spdway at first. They got very lucky.
I don't think it will freeze tonight, but it will be colder than normal for sure.
Believe it or not, Sheila, the only thing that was damaged
was the corner that broke off from the solar light in the ground.
I'm still working at putting in my garden, so all my plants are in
pots and in the screen room and under the carport and under
the arobor and and and, LOL. No sheltered spot is safe.
The guy who's gonna help me move rocks and bring in soil had
to put it off again because of the weather. ARGH.
I hope none of you had serious damage to your plants or property.
The tornado touched down in Haltom City, which is right next to us.
Yes, I know where NRH is LOL!. I am a Haltom HS alumni, but that was a Loooo...ng time ago.
Plants look ok. But really, I have quite a few that have yellowing leaves and just generally would like to dry out for a while, please. Poor things, I can't help my clay soil (by much).
We had snow and sleet here in my part of Tx. The cold and ice set my new roses back some. They had already begun to leaf out and some had buds already. What a shame for them. It did freeze here that night too.
The weather didn't seem to bother most of the other plants. The Knockout roses fared real well through it all.
DancyTx, sorry about your roses, but the root systems should be fine. I was very worried about my roses and irises that night we were supposed to get to 30, whenever that was. But somehow, we came through without a problem. My roses have never looked better, but they were not newly planted. They've been in the ground for atleast 6 years. Last night I put a lot of stuff in the garage. I didn't want to have to lug everything back to the gh again. So far everything looks fine. But I'm wondering if it's safe now to plant finally.
silver...i told myself that come heck and hiwater i will start planting this next week....i am sick of waiting ....i am sick of the up and down...so keep me in mind when and if we have another bad cold...i will be the one weeping loudly...but by golly i am starting the mass planting!!!!!!!!
I think you will be just fine.
frostweed...with a name that sez 'cold' in it....i should run the other way...but i will take your assurance and add it to my ignorance and begin my yard!!! happy growing:)
That is right, I know Frost when I see it, and I am not seeing anymore of it.
(I hope I don't have to eat my words in the form of a frosty.)
Josephine.
All mine and my neighbor's morning glory seedlings died. Oh well, easily replanted...
so sorry...how low did the temp go?
Uh....32ish...don't remember, but we had a small bought of hail too.
I saw the forcast for next week. All rain, all the time. *sniff*
Rain all next week? Hmmm. Starting when?
where did you see the rain forecast....this week we are ok here...
Accuweather.com, but they've changed it to all sunny now! lol
