gladiolas didn't bloom

Coeur D Alene, ID(Zone 5a)

I ordered several types of gladiolas from brent and becky's bulbs last year. They came mid-may, and I planted them in a very sunny spot, about 8" deep. All of them grew foliage, but only the white ones bloomed. Did I do something wrong? I thought gladiolas were easy to grow? Any ideas? I'd like to plant more this year but don't want to waste money. I think they were healthy bulbs and everything else I've ordered from b+b has thrived....
Thanks!

If I'm not mistaken, in your area, you were supposed to lift your glad bulbs as they won't survive yours winters. When temps allow, do a little digging in the area where you planted, I don't think you're going to find any survivors.

About them not blooming, I've had that experience, not w/ glads, but w/ other bulbs. I ck the area to make sure there is still a bulb there, then give them another season in case I got immature or traumatized bulbs. About 70% did flower the 2nd year, but the remaining 30% were losses.

It helps to read the great info avail. in this forum (or any other forum as the case may be), however, if the info is not enough I go to WM and buy cheap plants/bulbs of what I want and "experiment" with them. Then the following year, depending on my success, I buy fancier varieties.

Eight inches seems a little too deep, six is good for large glad corms. Did you fertilize them at all? You can use manure when you plant them. They don't like weeds around them either.
There's a Gladiolus forum now, too:
