Some photos

This is my new Spring garden purchase - a yellow camelia, "Jury's Yellow". It is only about three feet high but has four large blooms. I have two red camelias that I inherited with the garden but I thought this one looked a bit different.

This is photo of my circular driveway with a bed in the middle. Last year we killed the grass that used to be there and I am planning a tropical bed. I am trying to use some of the plants that I already have that look kind of tropical and I will plant some brugs, cannas, bananas etc. when it gets a bit warmer. Because this is at the front of the house, we are always interupted when working there by the neighbours and passerbyes. Of course, they think we are stark raving bonkers !

Gorgeous Heather! That Camelia is awesome. I love the look of the bed in the centre of your driveway. I can hardly wait to see what it looks like after you're done with it.

Ayellow Camelia??? WOW! Heather, just out of curiosity, where did you purchase the interesting trellis in the 2nd photo please....I'm always on the lookout for these and arbors!! Elaine

Heather, I love what you're doing with your front garden bed. I'm trying to remember what it looked like. Is this the end closest to the house when you're looking towards the street? I think it is going to be awsome once you get all the tropical plants in there. You should get some of those palms that Growin was trying to give away awhile back.....if he still has some. Hopefully the weather is going to warm up and the winds die down for more than a day at a time one of these weeks. I'm dying to be able to take some of my poor tropicals out of the solarium so I can spray them with neem oil mix.....the spidermites are terrible. I can really hardly wait to be able to take the brugs outside for the summer.

Your camelia is lovely too.

Heather, Did you get the camelia at Cannor? or some secret nursery? I want to get one for my daughter to go with her pink and white ones.

It is really beautiful. Looks like a peony. Spelling looks wrong there. Never mind.

Thanks everyone for your comments.
Inanda, Yes, I got the camelia from Cannors and they also had them at Russells on Wain Road.

Elaine, Sorry I can't remember where I got the trellis, we bought three different ones and all at different places but I know it was not a big nursery.

Hi nightowl, the bed is right in the middle of the front yard. I am going to be "tweaking" it all summer, and I know what you mean about those blasted bugs !

Heather that looks really lovely. Can you give me your address? Since you're not far from me, I may have to come over late at night and take a few cuttings! KIDDING!

Orangeville, ON(Zone 4b)

Oh wow, that garden looks like the kind of place where you'll get to sit back, relax and enjoy! Beautiful! Oh and look at that soil you have to work with!

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks, Teresa and Erynne. We have been mulching with sea soil for the last three years in the spring and I really find it makes a difference. But it is not cheap !
Teresa, when things are a bit further along. I will d-mail you my address and you can stop bye for a look if you like.
Heather.

Looking wonderful Heather.

It looks great! I love the look of your soil. Are you going to put your Mickey Mouse in there?

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 2b)

Thanks, Heather. Am going to send my SIL off to Cannors.

Yes Liz, I am planning on putting my Mickey Mouse in there when the weather heats up hopefully by the end of the month. I am going to put regular old houseplants, that are around the house, in the ground in this area to see if I can get the tropical look without spending too much money !
Roselaine, if you are still watching this thread, I saw some of those bamboo trellis at Capital Iron in Victoria for $30 this weekend. Do you have anyone that could pick one up for you ?

Heather
What a lovely spot! I think i could get lost in just sitting and looking around. You are going to have to move to a bigger plot of land soon or you will run out of convertable spots!
I am looking forward to see what plants you find for this one.

Heather, thanx for looking as you are shopping. The trellis I am talking about is the arched open one in the photo...is that the same you saw at CI??? Elaine

I love your bamboo fence, Heather and the cozy little nook you have created there. Looks so inviting!

Yes, Elaine - that is the one that we saw at Capital Iron - in fact my son in law bought one.

Heather, that's really nice of you!

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8a)

Heather, I contacted CIron this am, and I asked them about the trellises...they kept repeating that these ones were last yr's stock and could possibly be damaged...strange though, said, no guarantee during delivery!! So I gave up...E
