I just have to push this plant sale again this year. It's the Southside Preservation Association Plant Sale and it runs yesterday, today and Saturday. http://southsidepreservation.com/Events/plantsale.html Fabulous deals to be found there. All 2" and 3" perennials for $2.00, All Gallon perennials for $5. 2 gallon Roses from the Antique Rose Garden for $16.50 or 3 for $40.00 and other deals.
They had roses available that Antique Rose Garden is sold out of online. Plus their rose garden outside of the location is just about in full bloom and worth going just to see it.
Example of some deals I got... I got 3 of the 2 gallon roses - Buff Beauty, Souvenir de la Malmaison, and Sweet Pea, all three of which are rarely found locally. I got a 1 gallon pot of the Red Cascade Rose for $5.00. The same size of this rose is $14.95 at Weston's. I also got Mosquito Plant/Scented Geranium for $2.00! Also, a 18" tall Vitex tree for $2.00, and they also have the Antique Petunia's, which re-see for $2.00 each. I got lots of other stuff too, but those were the top "can't be beat" deals.
Fabulous plant sale in Ft. Worth today and tomorrow
Went there yesterday too, and the amount of plants as well the prices were amazing.
Their courtyard surrounded by roses in bloom is totally beautiful and the fragrance heavenly.
I bought 3 gallon Yellow Bells for $5 each and they are tall and healthy.
Josephine.
Josephine, what time where you there? It's funny you said that, because when I was walking into the place, I was hoping maybe I'd see you there. :-)
I had taken the day off so I went to the Ft. Worth Botanical Gardens and down to Weston's also. Weston's had a fabulous selection, but boy were they pricey. I did not think anyone could get pricier than Calloways or North Haven Gardens, but they had them beat. I did a quick walk-through the gardens though and it was a great feature. That and they fact that the nursery workers were very very friendly (probably the friendliest I've encountered) did make it worth the trip.
Yes, I have found Weston to have the highest prices, but they do have a pretty place.
I wish I had seen you too. It would have been very nice.
I couldn't believe the number of plants they had in that auditorium, I asked one of the ladies where they get them, and she said they purchase them from different growers.
I wonder what they do with the ones they have left over, maybe they use them in their gardens? they sure are beautiful.
Josephine.
I am pretty sure they sell them all. I went the first day again this year, because one year someone on Gardenweb had said that it was pretty picked over on the last day.
