The annual sale at Brookgreen gardens is this weekend. Like Plantasia in Charleston, the early bird gets the worm---get there early! All stuff that's grown there routinely, so it works for low country gardeners. Well worth the drive---even if we do have to get up at "O Dark Thirty" to get the good stuff!...
Brookgreen Gardens spring sale
Brookgreen is my second home.
Last year I was at the gardens a day before the sale and honestly didn't see anything to die for.The prices were high and there weren't too many plants that couldn't be bought elsewhere.I may go today to see what they have this year.
Chris the manager of the greenhouses had a wonderful nursery before she came to Brookgreen. The bones of my garden are all from her place..
We do have another great garden center now,Waccamaw Farms. If you are coming to Brookgreen check them out.You won't be sorry.

Mornin' Nancy, :-)
Ditto on the Waccamaw Farms recommendation; I can't wait to go back there. It is not easy to find but well worth the trip.
I just looked at the plants for sale posted on the Brookgreen web-site.I gotta go!
I'll have to go early because we are baby sitting all weekend.
Oh Alice I wish you were here this weekend. It is truly magnificent and good weather expected for the weekend.
I did fine during the freeze.Minor damage to one of the figs.I used alot of sheets and pillow cases and stuffed everything I could into the house and green house.
Big smile here; I can just see the house and greenhouse stuffed. :-)))). Tell DH I think he is a sweet spouse.
We truly lucked out temperature wise and lately I have been collecting minature roses which seem to thrive on the cold (now let's hope they can stand August). My hibiscus also shrugged the cold off. If I can possibly stop acquiring overly tender plants like these D*#@ plumerias I'll be OK. (yeah, right)
I forgot to say have fun at the Brookgreen sale (you too Stono). I'll be wishing I was there.
Nancy, save some money for our next trip to Waccamaw.....
Ahh, Brookgreen. I wish I could go. I grew up in Georgetown, and Brookgreen picnics were a family ritual. Must have dozens of photos of my brother and me on the stallion statue (back when it had steps). Still go there every year when we're at Pawleys. You guys have fun and I hope you find some nice stuff. ;)
