Lowe's in Rosenberg - 75% Off Parking Lot Sale

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Tons of stuff! Esperanzas, braided hibiscus, lillies, impatiens, begonias, geraniums, daisies, salvias, bougainvella, and much, much more! Go quick before it's gone!

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

That is the best store! Earlier in the year I bought some 5 gal camellias for $12. I'll make a trip there tomorrow. Thanks Kristi for the heads up.

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Hey, that's mean....you know we can't get there before it's all gone!!!! I thought the 1/2 price caladiums last week were fun.....but 75% off....gee....might have to toodle back down the highway....and another stop at Caldwell's...hmmmm....

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 8b)

You are soooo lucky, our Lowe's never has a sale, except for the plants that are on their last leg.

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

I bought so much stuff. My DH thought I spent a fortune and I only spent $38. Some of the stuff was in desperate need of water but they perked right up when I got them home. $24 hibiscus for $6???? Hanging baskets of impatiens for $1.25? I was a kid in a candy shop! I just may have to go back tomorrow.

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Stop it....I can't stand it......I'm going to go to our Lowe's in the morning.....they better have a sale too......

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

I'm sorry, BB!!! It's hard to be humble but I'll try.

You can stay in my guest room if you want to head down tonight. LOL! ;>}

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Don't tempt me.....
Oh, go ahead and buy 'em out. Just don't post this summer about having to water everyday because you have too many plants. We're not going to feel sorry for you. And I'll be the first to say, "I told you so."
I went with a friend to Caldwell's last Tuesday. Vossner came over to meet us. What a nice gal. We talked so much, I lost sight of my friend! Got a lot of neat plants I haven't seen in Austin. However, I was scrambling Sat. nite, literally throwing pots into the garage. Had to pull all the sheets, row cover, and blankets out to cover what we couldn't take in. Then it only got down to about 33/34. Took me a day to pull everything out again! My backyard is still a mess with pots everywhere. And we may get rain tomorrow. I hope I don't have to stay in and do housework......on top of missing the plant sale...sigh....

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Caldwell's in Rosenberg? Great place!

I was doing the same dance as you last weekend as well. I thought it was going to drop really low and covered everything up, moved what I could into the garage (I have a ton of seedlings....snail vines, orchid vines, clematis, butterfly and milk weed, on and on and on) and it took me all day as well. The temps didn't get nearly as low as they were forecasting.

I'll try not to complain about watering come summer but I'm really hoping to convince my DH that I need an inground sprinkler system installed. I've thought about meeting him at the door with a martini every evening but I think I'd have to include a rack of lamb once a week and truthfully, I'd rather be outside planting and playing. Heehee. June Cleaver....I am not.

This enabling on Knolan's part has inspired one story.

I made a bee line to the Rosenberg Lowes this morning and grabbed the last hibiscus standard. Nearby was an elderly lady looking so sad and disappointed about the fact all the tree hibbies were gone. Her sadness caught my attention and I finally offered her my plant. I really didn't know where I'd put my bargain anyway. The lady was ecstatic and with the biggest grin took the hibiscus.

A few minutes later another woman walks to me and thanks me for sharing. The tells me the elderly lady, a very accomplished gardener, had been diagnosed with cancer two years ago. Following the loss of her hair from the chemo, and terribly depressed, she whacked every plant in her yard. She was afraid she was going to die and worried that nobody would care for her garden. So she whacked it, whacked it all.

It appears the lady is recovering quite well from the cancer and was missing her gardening duties. So her neighbor (the lady telling me this story) told her about the Lowe's 75% off sale and about the tons of hibbies available, her favorite plant. After listening to thid story I was so very glad I let her have the hibiscus. I'm not usually that generous but there was something about this lil ole lady that made me do it. I'm so glad.

Thanks for sharing this bit, Knolan. You indirectly lifted a woman's spirit. Enabling, I think not. Sharing the tip was a Godly act, the way I see it, lol.

oh yes, I bought some petunias for 50 cents, pink lilies, 1 hibby shrub for $2, geraniums and coneflower rhizomes for 20 cents. The sale lasts til all's gone, probably tomorrow. It was pretty busy at 11am when I got there.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 8b)

That was very generous and sweet of you voss!

How sad that she whacked everything.

Haha....K, you may not be June Cleaver, but Betty Crocker...yes! You should hear the way this woman can cook!

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Vossner, what a wonderful story! I'm sure you made that poor woman's day.

Was there any esperanza left?

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Okay...I got up early and drove to the nearest Lowe's. No sale. So I drove to the next one. Just a 50% off table....pitiful. Came home with potting soil, 4 tidal wave petunias, and something to hit the dollar weed (that Image is expensive!!!!). When I drove up, my husband said my "running buddy" called to say Green Gate in Seguin was having a huge sale. She couldn't go till Monday. Husband said he'd go with me today since "everything would be gone after the weekend." Well, I was dumbstruck .....but only for a second! It was a good sale....4" pot sun coleus/$.50. They're about 8" tall and full...all colors. I got 36 so I could share. Hibiscus for $5.95 full of buds and blooms....not like big box ones either. I got quite a few odd succulents and some begonias...all $3.50 or less. The herbs and stuff were all $.99. It was pretty hot when we got there, so I didn't want to wear out "my ride"....and there's always Monday...to go again......
And the petunias that I pd. $3.98 for a qt size at Lowe's...were $5.95 for a huge, full hanging basket......Had lots of brugs, some were variegated. Too much to see in so little time.
I'm too tired to cook now, so we'll have to go out for dinner! Wait'll I tell him I need more pots for the hibiscus.........

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Voss..that's a wonderful thing you did today. I'm sure that lady will think of your kindness everytime she walks by the hibbie.
Sandi

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

thank you, I was rather pleased w/ myself. She got a hibiscus, but I got that wonderful feeling of making somebody happy, if only for a moment (Knolan, you get credit too since you gave us the heads up, lol)

Sandi, an extra kiss and not only will hubby take you pot shopping, but he'll listen to your banter about whether you should get this one, or that one, blah, blah, blah. Get them all, BTW.

when I got there this am, there were no experanzas, no shrubs really. losts of petunias, a very nice gardenia--a variety I'm not familiar with, begonias, geraniums, lilies. A few hibiscus shrubs and a couple other things that didn't grab my attention. Then inside, all bulbs were 90% off; hostas, astilbe, coreopsis, coneflower, LOVs. And the pond plants were also 90% off, a very good selection still available.

For other Houstonians, other stores that always have excellent deals like this are: Lowes, Walmart and HDepot on I-10 and Fry Rd (a very busy corner). Lowe's in Rosenberg seems to be the best, IMO.

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Sounds like you hit the jackpot too, Sandi! I just love it when things like that happen.

Vossner, it sounds like it had been picked over pretty good but you still got a lot of good stuff. I didn't even look at the bulbs inside when I was there yesterday (it was a madhouse).

Which Walmart do you find the good deals at? The one here in SL doesn't ever to seem to have anything special.

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

WM on Fry Rd, north of I-10. It's right next to the Home Depot. The whole area is super busy. Relatively near to the Garden Ridge Pottery. There's a big Hobby Lobby, SteinMart, a new Kohls. Well, a shopper's dream and a driver's nightmare!

Which is your closest WM, the one close to Dulles? That one is kinda boring in the nursery Dept. The one on Hwy 6, north of Hwy 59 is not terribly exciting either.

The one on Fry/I-10--that's the one where it's happening, baby. The merchandise turnover, plant nursery and everything else, is dizzying. If you don't grab it right then, it's gone. About 5 years ago the nursery was staffed with mostly seniors that were master gardeners but no more, I would go there and chat with a couple of them for 1 hr, while watching them water plants, put shade plants in the shade, sun plants in the sun, etc, etc.

The one truly closest to me, WM Rosenberg is not too bad in the nursery dept, but the store overall is dirty and poorly maintained. We only go there to buy deodorant, bird and deer corn, and auto oil. I mean it.

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Looks like I have a new trip to take next week. My poor DH......

The WM by me is Hwy 6 and 90. I'm not overly impressed with their garden dept.

Thanks for the tips! I can't wait for another plant adventure.
