tulips First Kiss and Shirley

Hughesville, MO(Zone 5a)

We have one or the other but I can't seem to find a description on the internet. These start out white with just a thin line of lavender around the edges. Then they begin to get lavender streaks on the pedals until the whole blossom is lavender. Anyone know which this tulip is?

Here are a couple of pics from a blog of 'Shirley' showing some variation in the flower

"First Kiss" seems to be a bit obscure. Do you recall where you bought the bulbs?

Hi,

I know Shirley, and it's got that nice purple edge. Here's a shot that shows it combined with Zurel and Attila. Pretty magnificent combination.

Hi, david, ---Yes, fabulous combination--I have been looking for a striking purple-y grouping for next spring.

Interesting photo blog with beautiful pics---are you associated with Dutch Gardens? t.

What we have is definately Shirley. The bulbs were free at Powell Gardens last year when they pulled out the ones that had bloomed in the spring. They do that every year. Then in the fall a new scheme is designed and new bulbs are planted. The staff and volunteers get to take home any plants and bulbs that are removed. They change the plantings about 4 times a year so there is lots of opportunites for free plants. I brought home over 50 bulbs of various sizes and shared with family and friends. We don't know what we got but we know they will be pretty.

Thanks everyone for the help. I had both of the tulips I mentioned years ago but both were destroyed by vermin. I no longer remember just what First Kiss looked like I guess. I think maybe I got them from Brecks but can't say for sure.
