I've got an infestation of fireants in a large tree in my backyard. The big problem is that my daughter's playself is a few feet away from the tree, and the playset is currently unusable due to the number of ants crawling on it. I can't find a single point where the ants are crawling under the bark - there are quite a few spots where they seem to be getting in.
Any suggestions how to get rid of them? I would prefer to avoid anything too toxic due to the proximity to the playset. I've looked at a few organic solutions, but they are designed to be sprinkled on the mound, and there is no mound in this case.
I and my daughter would appreciate any help!

Fireants in my tree
Dennis, we use this product at the Wildscape greenhouse and it works fast and thoroughly.
It is an organic poison but it dissipates fast and leaves no residues, however it is poison.
I would keep the child away from the playset for at least three days, then you might want to wash the playset.
I have also had luck with just plain vinegar, but acid can kill plants and since you have a large area it might not be feasible.
Here is the link, the product is called Results;

I hope it helps, you should be able to find a place that carries it.
Josephine.
Dennis, I forgot to mention that this product can be diluted and sprayed on the ants. We had an infestation at the greenhouse and it took care of them fast.
